WildGuzzi Tag-O-Rama
« on: August 18, 2019, 06:47:54 PM »
There's an interesting game on ADVRider.com called tag-o-rama.  Various states have them in the regional forums and the Scooter forum does an interesting variation.  Here's the rules, stolen and modified from ADV:

https://advrider.com/f/threads/scooter-tag-an-excuse-to-ride.972287/

Rules

A player posts a Tag photo showing his/her bike (doesn't have to be a Guzzi) in front of a location that will be the tag. Player shall state what in the photo is to be tagged. Example - a Church, a Monument, a Sign. The tag should be something that can be found at other locations, it should not be a unique location that other players cannot find. The object is to ride and have fun, NOT to try and stump other players from finding a matching tag.

To grab a tag, another player must post a photo of his bike in front of a location as identified in the tag, i.e. a different Church or Monument or Sign.

The player who "grabs" the tag then gets to "drop" the next tag at a different location with a different specified tag.  For example, If I place the first tag at a mural, you will ride to a different mural and take a picture of your bike in front of it.  Then, you ride to a different "tag" of your own choosing, it could be anything from a sign to a church or post office or whatever (be creative) and take a photo of your bike in front of it and post that photo here (drop the tag).  Describe what in the photo is the actual tag.

HE WHO POSTS FIRST WINS. It does not matter who got to it first, He who posts first wins the tag.

If a player "grabs" a tag in good faith, it's good. Post the next tag, no need to ask it it's good.

File Photos may be not be used.  A file photo is any photo taken prior to the posting of the current tag.

The purpose of the game is to get out and ride so, get out and grab a tag!

Keep the game moving - if you make a Grab, post the next Tag so that play can continue.  While you are out riding, take some photos you can use as a Tag so you can post them after you make a grab.

I have no idea if this will work here or not or if it's just a stupid idea.  :)   Sometimes, it's fun to have a goal when you go for a ride.  Also, I like seeing photos of different bikes and places.  I'll start the game -

Large mural:

Edit:  locations might be nice, too.  That's in Buckhannon, WV.

This could be fun. :thumb: I think I'll go and find a mural, then I'll find a big Eastern Grey 'Roo roadkill. That should slow you yanquis down a bit!

Ok, I'll play. I'll be out on the Mighty Scura today. Maybe I'll find a mural.

Nope. A playground is not a gym.

Okay, maybe I'm looking at this from another perspective.   I guess if you want to say a kids playground is close enough to a gym, right out of the box I think we are setting this up to go off the rails quite rapidly.  If we are going to play fast and loose with the concept, I suspect it will quickly degenerate into just another pic thread, and lose the game part.   Even more important, is the need to make all pics present day.  We can all sit back and pull pics from times past to match up, but then that kills the whole adventure point right?  I thought the idea was that the player sees the most recent pic, say of a mural, then goes out and finds a different mural takes a pic of his bike with it, then goes to another location in short order and takes a pic of his/her bike with an ocean or such.  That way it keeps evolving in real time.   Many of us won't be able to play every or even most rounds, for instance I live days away from the nearest ocean, so it would need to be someone who could bop over to the coast and take a pic and post it, and go on to another place.

Pulling  pics from the past kills the fun for me, am I out of line on this?

What's up with you guys?  At least 1/4 of the users of this site are retired, IE they don't have jobs!   Why aren't we getting more folks playing?  At this point 488 looks have been taken at this thread, and a pathetic 5 of us have actually made an attempt to play.  Let's go girls, its fun and easy, it gives you a destination instead of wondering aimlessly around the highways and byways of the world!   None of us care who wins, in fact the way I think we are playing there might not be any winner, but lets play for the fun of it.  Don't pay any attention to the time restrictions shown in the rules, we are Guzziesta, we don't have time for time restrictions!

Old cemetary, eh? Gots one.

this is where my old friend Bill rests. He helped me build two airplanes just for the experience. Brought his lunch every day, just like a job.  For years. (!) Without him, I would never have finished the Great Lakes project.
After he died, at memorial day, I found a die cast DC3 to put on his gravestone.

Set it into the prevailing wind, and the props were turning when Dorcia and I left. Thought, "Cool."
The next year, it was still there. (!!) Nobody had molested it, and the wind hadn't blown it away. I rode back, prepped the stone, and JB welded that sucker on there. Over the years, the plastic props have gone away, but the venerable old DC3 is still soldiering on, just like in real life.
Bill loved airplanes, and it's a great one.

Ok, for the tag, how about an antique gas pump?

Haven't found an old gas pump yet, but I'm bumping this because it needs to grow legs.

Yeah. I can't understand why it isn't more popular.

Now I know there is an old gas pump at Nerriga but I've got some hideous disease at the moment and don't want to ride 90k each way only to end up with pneumonia. I didn't try for the cemetery one. That was too easy. I could do it from my verandah!

Dorcia just got over a case of "walking" pneumonia.. I think a better term would be "staggering." Dave the Doc says it's called walking because you're not in the hospital with an IV in your arm. Take care, Pete.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

The BMW guys are right.  Guzzis owners are poseurs who don't ride.

For me, this thread is working as intended.  It's a long weekend and I need to finish mowing the lawn, paint a windowsill, and bbq up some dinner.  Figured I'd grab a tag before I got started by riding to the antique pumps that are about 10 miles up the road in Blacksville, West by god Virginia and come back home.

Couple hours riding and one beer later. . .
