The only battlefield around here is 1.5 hour boat ride away - from the Pig War.  Only casualty was a pig (and a couple hundred square miles of the British Empire).

I’ve never been there before. I’m shocked at how small it is/was.

And remember, tag ideas can be reused.  Lots more muffler men out there than I was aware of.  I used this map:

https://www.roadsideamerica.com/map/theme/86

Amazing how small - another great history lesson.

Great tag, Charlie.  Anybody else walk the Civil War battlefields, or any battlefields, and get a strange uneasy feeling?  Devil's Den in Gettysburg did that to me as did the Bloody Lane in Antietam.

New tag: monument, preferably stone. This one is the James Rumsey Monument and Park in Shepherdstown, WV.

So, all of the above is in Waynesburg, PA.  Thanks, Charlie.  I never knew that this little park and it's huge monument were within 30 miles of my home until I saw your tag and googled 'monuments near me'.  It's an impressive monument.

https://www.heraldstandard.com/gcm/news/local_news/greene-county-statues-honor-local-u-s-history/article_14cfe9a8-a818-5e25-8dcd-b20a130f19e7.html

According to Younger, the time period when the statue was dedicated took place during the Spanish American War, the first major war since the Civil War.

The statue is topped with Lady Liberty, and according to Younger, the two items she is holding represent the message the monument was telling about the period.

“An olive branch and the wreath. The olive branch is higher than the wreath. The wreath in ancient Greek history represents victory and the olive branch is famously known as symbolizing peace,” Younger said. “Lady Liberty is holding the wreath, but above that wreath is an olive branch and she is looking in the direction of the south. This represents the peace that was desired between the north and south.”

Sorry, I couldn't get closer to the monument.  I was going to ride up the path, ala Kidsmoke, and get a photo but there was this woman with a really judgemental looking dog, so. . .

That’s a grab, by the way. I’ll be by with more info, and a new tag, later.

Ha! Sat with Chuck in a brewery tap room yesterday afternoon, lamenting our failure to pickup that aging monument tag, and wondering why this isn't a viral thread!

Timing is everything. Good on ya!

Grab: "Farmer's Daughter Bakery" in Jefferson, MD.

New tag: old schoolhouse. This one is in Burkittsville, MD and is now used as a community center.

Damn! Wish the Stelvio was back, I'd go and tag the old school at Majors Creek.

I've got customers tomorrow which will preclude a ride to anywhere else on the Griso. Bugger!

This was the crossroads town of Hamilton. Nothing left except the local school and the remains of what was a ModelA type gas station.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I was talking to Superman, and he told me it was getting really hard to find a phone booth to change in, so I tackled that job with a grin.
I couldn't find one, either.
How about a barber pole for the tag?

Count!?  I think it’s brilliant!  It’s a cop conveyance, after all.

If anyone objects, here’s a cop car I found today but I cede my tag to PJP. :). Now get us a new tag!
