Title: wheel color codes
Post by: AH Fan on December 09, 2018, 12:13:59 PM
Hi all..... was wondering if anyone would know for sure if the dark grey wheels on the 2002 to 2004 V-11 are powder coated or paint?
Also would anyone know where I might find these factory correct color codes for these wheels?

Thx in advance.        Ciao

I would also like to know this for the Le Mans 1000 red wheels.

I believe these wheels are Brembo, originally Marchesini but Brembo bought them out in the late 90s.  The ones I've worked on were from the 97/98 timeframe but I'm pretty sure those were (poorly) powder coated.  Mine were refinished with (good quality) powder coat 20 years ago.

The wheels on my 97 Daytona are Marchesini and I believe they are painted as I also need to order some touch up paint due to tire installation.

AH, if you order that paint let us know how it matches.

On the 02 V11 sport I had, I am pretty sure the wheels were painted. If it was powder coating, it sure was weak, and would scratch easily. I had the charcoal grey color matched by the computer/camera at my local automotive paint store, and it was very very close, except that the OG had a satin finish, and I sprayed them with a gloss clear over the base coat. I could have done a satin clear ,but used what clear I already had on hand.
I used DuPont Chromabase to get an accurate color match, and the wheels came out better looking than factory IMHO.
That was when I invested in tire mounting equipment, and started doing my own tires, after having a  couple of different shops nick my wheels.

Marchesini wheels for a ‘97 Daytona or 1100 Sport (same wheels) were poorly powder coated silver, with no clear coat.  Metallic clear coat requires clear, these didn’t have it and as a result turned flat grey very quickly.  After Brembo bought Marchesini (circa 1998, on Centauros) I noticed the finish was improved, IIRC they were now cleared but it was still relatively poor quality.

Thx fellas...… And yes I will forward any decent info as this quest moves forward.
Turns out mine are Brembo and the local shops believe it is paint not powder coat and of course upon detailed inspection of said paint it has a unique metal flake imbedded.
I will be contacting Brembo for that particular run to see if they can shed some light.
