Tonti twin front disks - ps15 or ps16 master cylinder?
« on: April 14, 2020, 04:31:11 AM »
All.

For those that have delinked there brakes, is the preference a Ps15 or Ps16 front master cylinder? Will I even notice the difference?

Running 2 brembo F08 (38mm) callipers.

Also, has anyone tryed one of the new reproduction Ps15 round resivoir master cylinders available from MG Cycle, Stein Dinse and others? The casting quality looks suspect...

I delinked my LM2, I used a 15mm Brembo RCS master cylinder which works very well.

I de-linked the LM3 and the LM4, both with twin F08 calipers. On the LM4 I used the original 12mm master, and would have on the LM3 except the casting broke. It now has a newer master with the rectangular reservoir. It's also a 12mm, which is actually closer to 13mm being an imperial 1/2". I believe all brake parts are produced in imperial sizes only, then marketed as metric equivalents by companies dealing in metric parts like Brembo.

It will cost you nothing to try using the current master. If you don't like it, I'd be happy to buy it from you.

It is important eliminating all of the air or there will be excessive travel.

Yes, they came standard on all V11 models without linked brakes (so the V11 sport/le mans series) and the quota 1100. I used a quota master as it is in the same style as the regular PS13 master used with linked brakes (square reservoir as a casting instead of a seperate reservoir used on  the v11 models).

The newer bikes have more pistons, so they probably have more surface area and need a bigger master, 16 is probably too big for two F8 calipers. I used a 15 when i first de-linked mine and didn't like it. I went back to the original 12.5 and prefer it, as already mentioned you can't let air build up, you have to keep the maintenance if you go with the smaller master. But certainly I wouldn't want to go higher than 15 with two F8s

Here’s a couple pics of the MG Cycle brembo-like 15mm MC.  The casting quality looks very good, but it’s painted.  The paint quality looks kinda 70s Guzzi equivalent.  Will see how it weathers.  I did the rear 12mm MC from HMB that’s really nicely machined and anodized.  Will report once on the road

I seem to recall MG Cycle having that same master in 12mm also.

If you don't like the paint (didn't look that great to me in the photos) you could always have it anodized.
