Coming winter
« on: November 11, 2018, 10:10:19 AM »
Second snowfall this year the other day.  First one came on 12 Oct.  I wait for the roads to clear and dress warm and ride anyway
just to mystify the locals here. But it does remind me of the old Indian proverb I heard in the Dakotas.
"Wet bird does not fly at night when the frost is on the testicles of the buffalo". I heartedly agree.

Tex left me a message saying it was so cold at the oleo ranch that it wouldn't spread.  He was watching Jeopardy in front of the open fridge to keep warm.  Maybe he'll get snow this year.  He needs some.

I was held up in my travels for snow and wind some weeks back.  There were some records broken for early snow and most snow in SD and MT as I was passing through.  It's warmer here on Whidbey island,, but clammy, with lows near freezing and highs in the low 40s.  This will be a day in a row without rain.

Hang in there Jim. Might be mid 40s by Friday!

Nothing on the horizon yet, but I won’t be surprised if we get some mid 50s this late fall and winter.

We had our 1st snow a couple of weeks ago.  You know where.  We're back to normal.  Nasty rain at your former homestead.

It never broke above single digit windchill here today. Between last Thursday and today we have had about five inches of snow and not even Thanksgiving! That is more snow than we had the last two winters combined.

I had really hoped for one last RV camping trip after Thanksgiving to SW Mo and Central Ark, but those weather forecasts are pretty depressing. Last year I was on the road to mid December. Oh well

Sadly winter has arrived early in the mid-atlantic region.   Our normal temps for mid November are mid-50's to low 60's for highs,  and upper 30's to low 40's for lows.   Our first "winter weather event" is starting now.   The road crews have already sprayed the ECS (extremely corrosive shit) on the roads, so, riding season is over for me, or at least paused until we get some above-freezing temps with significant rains to wash it away.

Normally we don't get frozen precip until mid-to-late December, and often not until the first or second week of January.    Last winter was especially long, the last snow was the second week of April.

Thus begins 4 1/2 to 5 months of depression brought on my PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome).

Snowing in WV too.  No worries about PMS because once every eight or ten days throughout the Winter there will be period of suitable riding weather.

We're bouncing around the -10 to -20 mark, and winter is in full force. Had the snowblower out the other day.

I was determined to ride as long as possible this fall/winter, even bought a new helmet with earflaps (neck skirt). But this weather is testing me. Hope to get back to the 40s soon.

Global warming?  Bullshyte!  Woke up to the 4th snow of the season. 3 inches and still coming down!
Now I have to shovel my ramp and walk .  Did you ever shovel snow from a wheelchair? It's slow going.
I guess yesterdays ride was the last one for a while.  There will be salt on the roads for sure.

We got a bit of snow overnight.... here in sunny, downtown Villa Ridge, Missouri.

It continues to snow, off and on - with the promise of another couple inches of snow.

Not too bad, though - because it's hovering in the high 20's to 30 degrees.

Snow is melting.  50s yesterday and 63 today.   Warm until Sunday.

This was January weather.  I don't think we had any snow last winter BTW.

I hope to mow the lawn tomorrow.

You'll note that the term "Climate Change" is now what is used to describe what is happening.
The AVERAGE temperature of the planet is going up, which is causing the climate to change.   I know, at least in my region, we seem to be getting a lot more rain, and winter last longer.   Average temps here don't seem to be going up.

Hurricanes seem, on average to be stronger than they used to be.

The droughts in the western part of the country seem to be worse, resulting in worse fire seasons.

Climate Change is real, even if the result isn't warmer temps where you live.

*Climate change*.

As global temps rise and change ocean current temps, the result is more extreme temperatures at both ends of the thermometer, and more extreme weather conditions across the board.

Snowing in WV too.  No worries about PMS because once every eight or ten days throughout the Winter there will be period of suitable riding weather.

It may be "riding weather", but once they've sprayed "brine" on the roads or spread "salt", my bikes will be staying inside. Unless a steady rain comes along and washes all of it off the roads, of course.

6" of snow here and still coming down.

Well... I picked it due to my combined love for Mad Max flicks, and ratty 70s Japanese standards.

A bit prophetic really... as I have a tumour on my right middle toe now, and there's a good chance I'm losing it down to the last knuckle in a few weeks. If I'd known it was gonna come true, I'd have picked a way better name... like "Three Legs", maybe.
