Since learning that old Guzzi's are made up of old and outdated parts mostly manufactured in a tiny geographic area, subject to the ups and downs of the times, I'm done with the old ones. Simply too many late model Guzzi available for a fair price.
Not worth the hassle with so many dip-whips on Craigslist and Ebay, believing their old hags are rare as hens teeth. New bikes come with a two year warranty and unlimited miles. Had two minor repairs, one for each of the brand new Guzzi's I have purchased in the last 15 years. Both were 100% covered by Guzzi, no fuss, no cost.

This should be followed by two additional threads:
Not interested in any Guzzis at all
Interested in all Guzzis
-
I am not at all interested in the lack of interest.........

is there no apathy? what happened to lethargy?

Chad, I wish the Asians would adopt the same no hassle claim model. I had a brand new CBR 250 in the shop waiting for a decision from the area rep to decide IF it was a warranty problem and the dealer would not even turn a wrench to verify or investigate the shifting problem. Three friggin months later, a service bulletin from a year ago magically appears. Bolt repositioned per said bulletin, problem still there. "We've done all we can" is the excuse. I suspect the Asians are too worried with saving face than admitting there is a problem.
Now let me check for recalls on my 89 Mille....

outdated engines- no OHC :wife:

. . . and all they sell are used ones. ::(

GREAT! That means more for me to choose from! ;D ;D

I am so grossly offended by every aspect of the socio-political implications of the global economy and everything that has happened to the human race that has bought us to where we are now that I've decided to go and live in a cave in the side of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa, where, due to its generally accepted location as the birthplace of 'Modern Personkind', (Can't be sexist and refer to it as 'Mankind' can we?) I will be able to live on a diet consisting of mainly seeds and the odd bit of carrion and bask in my sense of grandiose moral splendour!
OK, so I won't have to make arduous decisions about the moral complexities of purchasing anything in a globalised economy but think of the fun I'll be able to have bashing my neigbors over the head with an antelope's thighbone and dragging their Wimmins back to my cave by their hair!

That was my first thought. Take advantage of the strange and unrealistic prejudices of others to improve MY chances of getting a good one!

I agree - those older Moto Guzzi's are of no use to ANYONE.
ANYONE that has them should immediately put them for sale at rock bottom prices.
Simply to save themselves the aforementioned frustrations.
At your service......feel free to PM me prior to your submitting ads. I might could save you the trouble

Is it January again?
Actually, may get frost here tonight, so maybe these threads are timely after all. ::)
After weeks ... OK, months of having my my EV and Norge on the lift, I am finally ready to (as Motorcycle Classics says) "ride 'em, not hide 'em." Yee ha.
Figuring my EV counts as an "old" one, and the Griso as a "new" one, with the Norge an attractive middle-aged lass. I'm ready on all fronts. :D
See you on the road.

Yeah , but only the Australian made doughnuts , right Mark ~;
Don't be silly Dusty, they don't make doughnuts anywhere else. ::)

Still waiting on the snow to melt?

I'll take the old Guzzis (and the new ones on the other thread) of your hands for a nominal charge as public service.
;-T
It's the least I can do. Really, the least.

He never said how old old is.

I wish the OP's sentiment (real or for humor's sake) were more prevalent. Watching these things go up at an accelerated rate as with my favored IHCs... anything IHC is disconcerting.
I certainly appreciate the POV that slavish devotion to in-country sourcing to any end left our marque at the mercy of shifting work ethics as well as wildly varying pandering to and of a single nation's government jumping by years through Byzantine hoops (though multiple governments are of course involved).
I want my Italians to be Italians but then if I get my wish... they are of course entirely Italian - I'll call that "Catch 11".
Todd.

Who cares?
Really I'm rather ambiguous about it all.

Wow Chad time to get rid of the 07 Breva and 84 sp and get two NEW ones!

Police don't like bikers. Police love doughnuts. If I carry doughnuts with me while on the bike, Police will love me.

Chad, I understand and respect your point of view. Old bikes have a charm that is enjoyed by some but, understood by few. New bikes have there merits, all the new techno gadgets and electronic apparatus' are great, smooth power, nice suspension, and even a thermometer, which makes no sense on a bike IMHO, I'd rather have a compass. The problem is, when a fuel injected bike breaks down, there's a pretty good chance you won't be fixing it yourself. For years I always had my "turn key bike" along with my classics. But, last year my turn key bike turned 18 and started to need more tinkering. So, I sold it and bought a 40 year old that is more easily repaired roadside. I, personally think the growing interest in old bikes is great, I'm basing my living on that. Keep buying the new bikes, someone has to keep Guzzi in business!

Ahh, Joe, this whole thread was done tongue in cheek as a response to "No interest in New Moto Guzzi's!" :o :o
I like them all, I'm even lucky enough to have old and newer Guzzi's!
I'll give you a pass JoeW, as I'm sure you have been twisting wrenches all week and might be a bit weary on a Saturday!
Are you gonna be at the 30th IL bash?
-
Really I'm rather ambiguous about it all.
I'm not ambiguous meself.....My apathy is more than my lethargy, buy my ignorance exceeds both.
-
My apathy is exceeded only by my lethargy
Is it ignorance, or just apathy?
Well, I don't know and I don't care ....

Oops, my bad. It's true I've been a little busy, I should have known better.
I am torn between the "Brewton Rumble" in Milwaukee and the Illinois rally. I was at the second Il. Rally in 86 I knew no one and rode in on my BMW RS. It was about 5 years until I went back. I've always had fun, I'm talking myself into it.

I know, sucks there both on the same weekend!
-
He never said how old old is.
Good question. Old = Antique? To the AMCA it means they are at least 35 years old. That definition brings in a lot of bikes that are too modern to be considered antiques. I've got 3 in my garage that qualify!

A dozen Krispy Kreme originals got me through secondary inspection at the Canadian border once. P:)
