(NGC) shipping a helmet from NY to the UK
« on: February 12, 2019, 02:16:19 PM »
So I’m trying to get prices to ship a helmet from New York to the UK.  Ups, Fedex,DHL all quote prices $300-$600, dhl was the $600 one.  What am I doing wrong?  When I’ve bought helmets in the past from Europe I only paid @ $40.  Just wondering what some of you know that ship all over the world.
thx
Allen

Glad you asked that, I'll be glad to see the answer.   I regularly get boxes of BSA parts from the UK from vendors there like Draganfly, and the shipping is $25 or so.

I want to ship a 2' x 2' x 2' box, 18 pounds weight, from here to there, and UPS says $550 normal shipping.  That can't be right ....

Just checked usps and got a quote of $76. Still seems high since I don’t pay nearly that much when I get goods sent to me from Europe, hell even australia.

To get cheap freight is simple.  You just have to flatten the package a little....

Find someone who is flying and have them carry it in luggage.  Then ship locally in the destination country.

I mail stuff all over the world. USPS is cheapest AFAIK. 6 LBS to China was $80 recently.

Not a bad idea, but could backfire if you buy one that seems to fit, or according to your head size, and then you find that after a couple of hours you're miserable in it ... !

I recently bought a box of nuts and bolts for my Ford from the US. 3lbs weight 8x6x3inches $60US postage to Aust. The nuts and bolts $45US. Do you think I was peeved. :thewife:
I wouldn't bother with UPS, Fedex, DHL unless you have an account. In Australia we have a company called Pack and Send, do you have someone like that.

Use USPS. I've bought several items from the US recently and I've paid between $28 to $38 for shipment to Germany. My items were not *quite* as large as a motorcycle helmet, but almost.
But be prepared to have to deal with customs duties and hasssle like that! I think Germany may be worse than the UK in that regard though.
