'98 Cali gauge bulb change
« on: May 23, 2020, 10:17:14 PM »
Has anyone changed out the bulbs in the tach and speedo on one of these?  I've got the gauges loose in the cups but they both seem to be hung up on one side. I don't want to force them without some guidance.  See attached image for type.  I've already changed out the center block of warning lights, that was no problem.

That layout looks similar to my MilleGT, except the tach & speedo faces are different.

IIRC, the "pods" need to be detached from the center section to remove the chrome covers.

That's how they come apart, pretty much the same set-up.

Well, that image is NOT a 98EV.  In 98, the instruments had white faces.
For the tach, two allen head screws and the chrome outer cover comes off.  You then have direct access to the backlight bulb.
For the speedo,  in addition to the two screws,  you will need to undo the drive cable (careful not to lose the aluminum washer) and  you will need to unscrew the reset knob. Then  you can pull off the chrome outer cover and you have access to the backlight bulbs.  The instruments can stay resting within the rubber grommets of the dash panel.

Thanks nc43bsa.  My fat fingers didn't want to go back into that rats nest to get to that 8mm. Here's some pics.

The is the setup of the California BEFORE 98. A rats nest of wire in there. And tedious to get the gauge off.
Starting in 98 it is a much different setup.
