First New Bike
« on: April 22, 2019, 04:25:29 PM »
Over the years I've owned about 10 bikes mostly old beaters but I have never owned a new one, that's about to change.
My Wife finally convinced me to splurge out and buy a new one as a retirement present for myself so what to buy?
A month back I tried out a 1400, that was nice to ride but just too heavy and expensive, the Stelvio is too tall and again too heavy.
For quite a while I was in favour of the new V85, the picture someone took of me sitting on the one at Vancouver show somehow ended up as my screen saver.
I was quite sold on a V9 Roamer since riding Kiwi Kev's earlier this year, he accused me of not wanting to give it back, its a lovely bike that runs on the smell of an oily rag and not one you will trip over every time you are out which really appeals to me.
So when a V9 Roamer turned up at the local dealer I went and took a look with the intention of slapping down a deposit, it was one identical in every detail to Kevin’s, The Sales manager must have thought I was a bit crazy when I didn't take it for a spin, i just didn't get the "I have to buy this bike" feeling so I asked for a written quote with the intention of making the deal next day. Just as an afterthought I said why not add a V7 onto the quote so he added a V7 Stone and a V7 Special still in a crate. Later on that evening when I started weighing up the options I was swayed by the extra fuel capacity and I noticed the Special has a Tach which I see many owners wish for and spoked wheels. Of course the wheels will be tubed but that's never stopped me before, something I can convert later. To cut to the chase I told them the one in the crate is mine.

Now I just have to wait for them to uncrate it, I asked if I could be in attendance, what are my chances do you think?

You probably DID freak out the dealer with your buying method, but it sounds like it's worked for you and I predict a long happy relationship .... !

Well done Roy,

I look forward to hearing from you when you get home with your new GF.

You converted me to Guzzi and I almost hooked you up with a Roamer 😁😄

Can't wait to hear.

I’ve purchased two new bikes in my life. A 2002 HD Nighttrain and a 2006 DL650 VStrom. I dont own either today. If I purchase new again it will be a Guzzi small block. And, like you it, will probably be around for a while. Congrats on your new bike. I hope it’s everything you want it yo be.

Can't argue with you.  Just turned 900 miles on the V7III Special (black) that I picked up this spring.

Congratulations Roy, over the years years I've watched you work hard on some of these old bikes, nice to see that you'll be doing a lot more riding than wrenching.

Congratulations!

The V7 III is more fun and capable than the specifications or price would lead you to believe.  My black 18 Special is as great on the highway as it is splitting lanes, and I think it is one of the most beautiful motorcycles available at any price.

If you are present for the uncrating, it will be interesting to see photos and hear about it.

New bikes are great! everything is so nice and tight, no worn out parts.  I always wanted to be at the uncrating but never have been. then its the worry about the first scratch.  after that happens its not new. Tex put it this way: It might as well look like everything else I own.  that made me feel better somehow .  good luck with it !  :thumb:

Congrats.  I think the specials are beautiful and if I could park it in a conditioned shop I might have got one instead of the Carbon.

I have actually helped put a bike together from the crate and got to hear it fire up for the first time.  Kept that one longer than any bike I have owned.  60,000 miles, and a little over 5 years.

Love the New bike purchase.  It ranks right up there with a new car purchase.
Enjoy the experience and post the pics.

Now that the wife isn't riding anymore I have been considering going down in weight also.  We will see.  I sure hate to get rid of the Breva.   maybe I can just add lightweight ADV bike, like an Himalayan or something like that.  Time will tell.

Congrats
