Title: 850 T and 'Vert on CL
Post by: brider on January 11, 2018, 08:24:45 AM

A few months ago this lot was sold, but the owner says the previous buyer backed out.

He says he knows both have Nigasil cyls because he pulled the heads......didn't both those models come with iron bores, maybe the T with chrome??? Nigasil isn't magnetic like iron, or do I have that wrong?

I'm kinda interested because of the drivetrain/rear wheel I could swap into my Ambo, and the Convert is intriguing....just because I love all the time I've spent dismantling the timing cover on my Cal 2 Auto.

Any idea what that "swallow tail" fairing is he's talking about?

The 850-T would have had chrome bores originally, the Convert would have had iron liners.

Nikasil/Nigusil is mildly magnetic.

Gotta be worth $2000, especially if you sell unwanted parts later.

Should one use Vagasil on Nigasil?

There's something rather circular about this link.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking Twilight Zone myself, and Charlie doesn't usually strike me as a trickster....this one, too, had me thinking "Now WHY didn't I post that???!!!:

To further this subject, the seller is real but one of those guys who never answers your specific questions and gives peripheral info that you weren't really asking.

I asked if the Convert was complete, he did not answer. I asked how he knew the cyls were Nikasil, he didn't answer. I asked if he knew when the bikes ran last, he didn't answer. I asked if they were projects that he no longer had time for, he answered that both were in various states of assembly. He also promptly sent a pic of a custom Guzzi with a similar swallowtail fairing.

So he WILL respond, but I sense he's keeping his cards close to his chest as to condition and those cylinders. It's a good 90 min drive 1-way for me, but I bet if I actually show up he'd let the lot go for less than 2k. EXTREMELY tempting, but finding a place to store the lot with snow and slush on the ground and a backyard shed down a slippery hill is a problem for me. No more room in the garage, 2 Guzzis in there already.
