NGC British motorcycle engine hoard
« on: June 12, 2021, 09:20:31 PM »
I dropped into a local bike hop today, same owner for fifty years, sold many brands over the years, finished with Kawasaki but has not had a new bike dealership in many years, opens occasionaly and still stocks some Kawasaki parts. Today on the floor were spread out a wonderful collection of old British motorcycle motors, fascinating, he told me he bought a container of these engines from another dealer decades ago. At present they are not for sale, he just wanted to catalogue what he has. The owner knows what he has and has preserved them in as found condition in a heated building.

There are at least 5 v twins, some are stamped Excelsior, there are Arial twins and singles, Matchless, Triumph and BSA singles and many that I could not identify, I would love to have an old single to clean up as shop art.

I love this stuff!

48 Guzzi Airone, 57 Guzzi Cardellino, 65 Benelli 200 sprite, 66 Aermacchi Sprint, 68 Gilera 106 SS, 72 Eldorado, 72 Benelli 180, 74 Guzzi 750S, 73 Laverda SF1, 74  Benelli 650S, 75 Ducati 860GT, 75 Moto Morini 3-1/2, 78 Moto Morinii 500

Do they ever have a sock hop at the bike hop?

Seriously, was there a BSA V-twin in that pile?

That's a great spread of old engines.  They sure would look good displayed as is along the wall, for everybody to study, drool and imagine..

Jeez, I would have one of those v twins running and stuffed into some sort of frame...The two in the fore ground of the first photo look quite primitive....

Those castings were art in my eyes! Beautiful to see. That was why I fell in love with my first Indian made Royal Enfield. A big single. Non unit construction. 4 speed box with reversed controls. I kept it shiny clean and it just tickled me every time I looked at it.
My new RE 650 isn't quite as romantic to see. But it still has that classic British motor architecture to it and the cases and valve cover are gorgeous polished up as they are.
(But you do have to do monthly polishings to keep them nice! Gotta work to maintain that look)
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.
