Iíve been a mopar guy since I was 16 years old. However Ford motor company definitely has my attention with three of their pickups, the Maverick, new Ranger and the old workhorse F150. Personally if the Ranger gets close to the same highway MPG ratings, Iíd probably go there first and if the F150 V6 Ecotec gets anywhere close to the bigger motor Ranger, then Iíd probably go with the 1/2 ton Ford. I guess what Iím saying is for my use it would not be practical to go with a small pickup over a larger one with a 12k + towing capacity, for only a 5MPG difference. Especially when the 1500 Ford is capable of 25 MPG highway miles numbers.
You guys are thinking about this all wrong, hung up on towing capacity and 4WD and what not. The Maverick only LOOKS like a truck, but it's not a truck. It's a Ford Escape with an open bed, or basically a car with a truck-like bed. It's for suburbanites who hardly ever need a truck, don't tow a boat, but need to put 10 bags of mulch in the back for their weekend flower bed project. Or take their kids to hockey practice and want to throw two rank smelling hockey bags in the back, outside. Or bring home a new grill or lawnmower as a gift for father's day. It's not a truck.-AJ

I would find this truck useful for a number of reasons. If I need anything bigger, I'll hit up a friend or simply rent one for a day. Something that is not a gas hog is a good thing! Since I'm used to getting 36mpg with my car, I am not willing to take a big hit in that department for something I would not need everyday. As for safety, since many unibody vehicles carry a 5 star crash safety rating, I have to take exception on a full frame vehicle being any safer than the more predominate vehicles on the road.John Henry

But again, I haven't pissed on my pants, shirttail, bathroom floor, shoe, or hand in 20+ years because of it. I get out all my macho standing to pee quota out in the yard or in public restrooms

I don't want a turbo on my truck if I don't have to have it.I mean don't get me wrong I've owned turbos and supercharged motors. Jenn's Defender motor is pretty damn impressive and all that. But for my simple needs, I'll take NA if I can get it.Plus, in the past decade all of the NA motors I've owned/driven could meet or beat EPA numbers, while all the forced induction motors STRUGGLED to match EPA ratings (and this was borne out by consumer reports and the like, the EPA ratings even the revised methods have conditions that favor the forced induction motors, but the real world is still the real world).So no Eco-Boost motors for me if I can avoid them thanks.That said, when I was in Denver last month I rented a 2.0 turbo Wrangler Rubicon which was pretty damn impressive. I guess if I lived at altitude I wouldn't hesitate. But I don't.
When my old 1980 F250 was getting a little long in the tooth and my wife was pushing me to buy a new truck I went to the local Ford dealer to look at new F250's. My wife, being uber curious, asked the salesman if she could look at 250 to see what they look like. I rolled my eyes and went along. Crap.......when I stood next to that monster I new immediately that there was no reason for me to own anything that size. My old F250 was basically the same body as a F150 just with heavy duty everything.So I went back to the drawing board and started looking a 150's. I told the salesman I did not want the Ecoboost V6 because I have had a 300 Straight 6 in the 250 and I wanted a V8. He shook his head and said "No you don't. Come on, lets take a ride". I decided to humor him and took the keys and went for a short ride. Holy crap......I was impressed immediately. Great acceleration. That motor was really nice. Now, mind you, my 1980 F250 had a 300CI straight six with a 5 speed straight drive and could not get out of it's own way if it needed to, so this was a world of difference. I was sold.I have owned this 2013 F150 for 8 years and almost 90K miles and I have no regrets. It gets an average 19MPG between highway and local driving. I can get as much a 22MPG on long trips. The most I have hauled with it was my dad's Ford Escort. I hauled it from Northern Illinois to Columbia, SC and it didn't skip a beat using the Tow-Haul switch on the gear selector, it was flawless.
