I'm liking the looks and capability of that DR.  650?

Good luck with the hand, Chuck.  How long until you can use it again?

Yes. 650 With "factory" lowered suspension, Parabellum windscreen, and generic soft bags.

Fingers crossed.  Quite a complicated machine, the human hand, so be careful with it.

I thought long and hard about it. One more day of serious pain, and it *should* be downhill..

After my last 845 mile ride my rear tire was basically toast, a Metzeler MEZ2 steel belted radial.  Have been quite impressed with it; I am often fairly heavily laden  and this steel belted radial has always felt very planted, wet or fine.

I looked online at the various tires that you have recommended but a lot were out of stock (par for the course here and - has decimated overseas shipments) but was able to track down another MEZ 2 here in Christchurch that was really cheap compared with other places , and the firm had an acceptable fitting fee.

While the tire was off I did the usual spline check; the last tire was done in a bike shop as it needed changing in the middle of a trip I was on.  It brought home to me just how important this maintenance of the splines is.  I noticed that a thin friction washer had been fitted on the inside of the joint between the drive casing and the swingarm, definitely not done by me.  This of course had left a slight gap in that joint, a small amount of water had got in and the splines were just beginning to show signs of rust and the grease was beginning to get thin and hard.

Whole lot cleaned up, new moly grease everywhere, nice new tire on the back and she is now ready to go for it's new warrant of Fitness.  Total bill was $235NZ, which was actually $145 cheaper than the bill for the previous tire about 3 years ago!  Very satisfying. :thumb:

100+ miles today. Might be it for the season. Winter’s bound to get here sometime.

However, I did spent the day out at the RC field yesterday. It was a perfect day for a very small powered glider I fly and there was a lot of folks with multiple planes there. It was a good day!

John Henry

Excellent.  There is an RC airfield in Mingo Park near Washington PA and I hope to get up there sometime when people are flying so that I can learn more about the hobby.

Pretty good...thx for asking.

The FLHX needed a new rear tire. Couldn't spin one of the bearings. Installed a new set, cajoled the new tire's bead to seat...installed the schraeder valve which then decided its valving days were over. New valve obtained (gratis, thx Hideout HD)...aired up fine. PSI verification tomorrow. Reward:   A nap.

Sorry I didn't take too many photos of my last trip' however, here is one you might recognise.  The two boatsheds at the Port have both been turned in to cafes.  The two grinning are Sarah and David' the couple I stayed with in Nelson.

A shot from the edge of the actual port itself.

It's been a warm-ish November.  And we went for a ride

After that, came home and changing tires and other assorted cleaning and maintenance.

Had to get the grill out to remove this one.

Is that Haulashore Island (named for Captain Cook) and the boulder bank, we spent many a happy day there an amazing natural harbour, my Uncle made a boat powered by an old Briggs and Straton motor, wasn't fast but a lot of fun. What a beautiful city Nelson is.

Correct Roy.  Were you there when the cut was put through the Boulder Bank?  I was living in Golden Bay when it was done.  Made it much safer for ships getting in to the harbour.  Fifeshire Rock was not called that for nothing!

Yes, Nelson is pretty nice,  A lot of it, because of where it is built, tends to lose the sun early, or get it late.  Nice climate though.

Awesome day. Got the starter changed out on my Quota and fixed my shift linkage so I’m back to standard shift. I had reassembled it backwards when I was putting the bike back together so I’ve been dealing with GP shifting. Amazing what a difference such a small change made!

Can't really see our place in this photo which was taken from a biplane. At the very rear of the lake our place is right where the wing support wires bracket it.

Today?

Hopefully well.

It is small country's 103. Independence Day. Can not celebrate that much now as corona time.
But I will visit to local cemetery just to put small candle on the common grave of solders.

Thank you.

Even that short & simple music shows (for me that) Jean Sibelius was one the greatest composers in 20th century.

For many Finnish (language) sounds harsh, weird (= not pretty?). It does not belong to Indo-European language family (like almost all languages in Europe). It is very different (grammar, not only vocabulary), and one of the most difficult one to learn. It also has lots vocals (and less consonants) in words vs for example English. Long double vocals, double consonants etc. Still in this particular one (hymn) ... I think it sounds pretty nice? Transporting exactly that feeling (see below).

I'll not go to translate lyrics, but shortly: It summarizes how much all has come to cost for small nation/people and rises hope for better future (as finally Independent country).
