Did you repair or ride your bike today?
« on: November 05, 2017, 04:14:13 PM »
I got my petcocks in yesterday. charged up the battree and went about 100 feet from the house, it seems to have trouble idleing. maybe a vacume leak, will take it apart in a day or too, sounds good with the straight pipes/homemade baffles too.  tires were lo on air felt squirrly. but it was comfortable! ill get all the bugs worked out yet! :bike-037:

Both, put new grease in steering head bearings @ 60Kmi. Finished and rode it today, much better.

Repaired.
Replaced the large outer seal on the final drive due to leaking.
Also gave it a service, engine oil change, valve clearences, timing, clean air filters, regrease the rear drive hub splines, check carb balance, clean up the oil flung off the rear wheel and a general clean.

I rode my 01 EV about 100 miles today. I usually ride my 2012 Norge when I get out of the city but today I just wanted to let the EV breathe. Honestly, I enjoy riding the EV just as much as the Norge.

Did some minor work on the Norge, took the Stelvio for a leg-stretcher. Likely I'll reverse this later in the week, as I'm only waiting for one more delivery to begin the major farkle installations on the Stelvio.

Ride.
Rode over 3k last month, would like to do that or more every month. No real issues with my bikes except usual maintenance or wear items.

Swapped the floor board lower frame rails on the California EV for foot peg rails.  Fits my preferred riding style now and makes the bike a real pleasure to ride.

Rode my 750S tribute bike today to blow out brain cobwebs caused by too much time indoor. Great runner, possibly my favorite Guzzi ever, at least till I get a Griso...

No. Traction on the roads not so good this morning.

And working on a bike after working a 12 hour shift? Not in the mood.  However, on my day off this week, I will be spending time working on this:

Over the summer it looked like this, but now the front end is all done.  Have a bit more electrical to do, then it's time to tear down the rear end

Both.

Took out one bike to take care of a few things. Then came back to work on the headlight switch of my Eldo. Somewhere I have a wire that is dropping from 12.4V to about 10V with the lights on. Think I have found it, will confirm that tomorrow.

Replaced the Reg/Rec on the Doo-Kitty 1098 with a Shindengen unit, now to get the battery box back in that's tomorrow's job.

Sprayed the Bezel for the Tacho of the Sporti matt black after having it apart.

Had to remove then JB weld the studs.

One was loose and shot up inside the tacho then promptly attached itself to the internal magnet. I hate taking instruments apart, but I think I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Drove 750kms with my mate Peter to rescue his *New* Stelvio from near Ballarat in Victoria. It's a low mileage flattie NTX. We drag it back to Bungendore tomorrow for rollerisation and the *Other Stuff* that won't of been done then he rides it back to Townsville in FNQ.

My Queensland 'Small Tank' Stelvio arrives in Bungendore tomorrow so after the Cali 1100C is dealt with its next up on the block for rollerisation and sorting but that will need a kit, which is in a bonded warehouse in bloody Melbourne!

Never mind, we have the problems on the 1400 motor to keep us occupied and they are legion!

Changed hydraulic fluid in "new" 2007. Bike had only 2,300 miles on it when I bought it Saturday. I assumed that the brake and clutch fluid had never been changed; fluid from rear brake was nasty looking, from front brake and clutch wasn't too bad. Rode the bike about 25 miles afterward; warm but windy ahead of a cold front.

Repaired the KLR. Rode the Guzzi. Went to fetch the Indian, but the shop effed up the new gasket AGAIN, so I had to leave it there. Wasted two hour trip each way.

The biggest problem with buying new is not the price (tho you do take a substantial hit), but the warranty. Soon's you have an effin warranty you feel obliged to take your problems to the effin shop where these muthereffin pros take for effin ever just to eff up the job. Much better to buy used so's you can just take a beer out of the garage fridge, put the game on, light a cigar, and grab some wrenches.

Unmitigated risk aversion is the new Puritanism; complete with witch hunts funny outfits and humorless preachers thundering doom. The Deity is Safety; Satan is a Lawyer; but the object is the same: to suck the life out of life and tell you how to live it.

I rode the Daytona yesterday, came home and worked a little bit on the Norton.

Receive the new base and head gaskets in the mail on Saturday, so the engine went back together with new ss nuts and bolts.

Sanded down the gouge on the fork slider, but it looks like I will have to live with this bit of character.
