Tricolore paint scheme? (Italian flag colors)
« on: March 22, 2018, 06:46:19 PM »
Seems Ducati has done several "tricolore" paint schemes.  Aprilia less so, but some.

Not seeing any from Moto Guzzi.  Maybe too flashy?  Or do you think this is seen as bad taste?    Like a red-white-blue Harley?   :cheesy:

Lots of helmets with the flag colors.

Been thinking of a V7 tricolore.

Too flashy for Guzzi....now that is funny

The flag of Italy (bandiera d'Italia, often referred to in Italian as il Tricolore; Italian: [il trikoˈloːre]) is a tricolour featuring three equally-sized vertical pales of green, white and red, with the green at the hoist side. Its current form has been in use since 18 June 1946 and was formally adopted on 1 January 1948.[1]

The first entity to use the Italian tricolour was the Cisalpine Republic in 1797, which supplanted Milan after Napoleon's victorious army crossed Italy in 1796. The colours chosen by the Cispadane Republic were red and white, which were the colours of the recently conquered flag of Milan; and green, which was the colour of the uniform of the Milanese civic guard. During this time, many small French-proxy republics of Jacobin inspiration supplanted the ancient absolute Italian states and almost all, with variants of colour, used flags characterised by three bands of equal size, clearly inspired by the French model of 1790.

Some have attributed particular values to the colours, and a common interpretation is that the green represents the country's plains and the hills; white, the snow-capped Alps; and red, blood spilt in the Wars of Italian Independence and Unification. A more religious interpretation is that the green represents hope, the white represents faith, and the red represents charity; this references the three theological virtues.[2]

But Sicily wins the creepiest flag award....I truly do love it but man what a bazaar

The flag is characterized by the presence of the triskelion (trinacria) in its middle, the (winged) head of Medusa (Gorgon) and three wheat ears. The three bent legs allegedly represent the three points of the triangular shape of the island of Sicily, or the historical three valli of the island.[1] The present design became the official public flag of the Autonomous Region of Sicily on 4 January 2000, after the passing of an apposite law which advocates its use on public buildings, schools, city halls, and all the other places in which Sicily is represented.

The flag is bisected diagonally into regions colored red and yellow, red representing the municipality of Palermo, yellow representing Corleone, which in medieval times was an agricultural city of renown. Palermo and Corleone were the first two cities to found a confederation against the Angevin rule. Today, the triskelion (or trisceli) is also widely considered the actual symbol of Sicily. The symbol is also known as the trinacria, which is also an ancient name of Sicily. The name was also revived and used during the Aragonese period of the Kingdom of Sicily immediately after the Sicilian Vespers (1282) which ended Angevin rule.

Stock yes - That's original to the Coppa Italia. (2004)

The fairing is off a 2002 Lemans, and it's the same red.

The tri-color paint was used on the V11 LeMans as stated but in real limited numbers.

The Coppa Italia works, but I think it's because the bike is more silver than white, and the red and green are a dark metallic shades, and the green is kept to a minimum.
IMO the typical factory tri-colore paint schemes look way too busy. the home done jobs look horrendous.

( Coppa Italias are drop dead gorgeous in person, and would be my top pick of the V11 sport / Lemans series. )

I think Guzzi tried that scheme. Not for everyone, though I could embrace it if I had one.

When I built up my "Sportified" Moto Guzzi 850-T in the 1990s, I went with red frame and tricolore paint scheme on tank and tool boxes. It came out looking subtle and elegant, to my eye. Most of the folks who knew the bike seemed to like how it looked too.

I've had varying and fanciful thoughts about how to custom paint Racer... Tricolore is one of them.

Here is my fancy art work for a tricolor Rough.  The green would go around the top of the tank and down the other side.  Then 3 thin stripes down the center of the front and rear fenders.

The last 1200 Sport, the Corsa, was tricked out in Tricolore as well - very swish. I have seen a Cali 1100 also, but not sure if it was a custom job or factory. Looked good too. Go for it.

Awful; Italian vehicles need zero garish reminders they're Italian. Even the most basic of Italian transportation--say, a Fiat 128--is immediately recognizable from space that it's Italian!

The original Tricolore was a bit different; it was signalling Ducati's--and by extension Italy's--return to top-level motorcycle racing.

There's been a Tricolore Quota in excellent shape for sale on Craigslist for months now; most likely because of the garish paint scheme.

I've talked to the guy about this Quota a few times...and it's not the paint scheme that's funky...it's the guy.
