My cheap metal fender project for V7 iii Racer
« on: September 09, 2018, 04:01:40 PM »
I've have never liked the plastic fender look on my Racer.  Mostly the rear fender.

I looked into official Moto Guzzi aluminum fenders (like on the Stornello, Rough, & Milano), and it would be around $1200-$1300 to do that.       Ahhhh!  Way too much.

So after some searching I came across these raw metal fenders that were kind of cheap ... about $115 for a front and rear fender ... that's more like it!

Ordered these and got to work.  I've never done any stuff like this, it was 60% fun, 30% scratching head trying to figure out how to do certain parts, and 10% a bit pissed off.

Here is the end result ...

The fenders are from TC Bros (mostly a chopper parts place).

Front was "Plain Narrow Front Fender for Sportster Fits 35mm & 39mm Front Ends w/ 18, 19 or 21 in Narrow Rims"

Rear was "6" Raw Steel Flat Bobber/Chopper Fender"

The front was pretty easy.

Remove the mounting piece that came on it (drill out 4 rivets)
Remove the plastic original fender
Figure out where to drill 4 holes, drill them, bolt it on

This was harder for me than that sounds.  Some odd angles on the bolts and figuring out where to drill the holes and get everything lined up straight took a while.

The rear fender was much harder.  If anyone wants details let me know ... but basically cutting, drilling, lining stuff up is the work needed.

Congrat this modification, looks pretty good. I've got the same feeling about plastic, black fenders and MG original accessories proposal for unbelievable  price :) I found universal aluminum fenders (~$200) and adopted them. I had to metalwork some brackets/supports. I also changed rear lamp (to LED) and moved indicators (I machined simple supports). Now, bikes looks more "light" and old school I think. Cheers.

Ummm. That's not a fork brace you've left for your self. Regardless of how tight you make those 4 bolts the set-up is very poor.
The casting you took off was essential to maintaining the fork tubes in parallel at all times. (bumps, braking, steering, etc.). IOW: you're expecting the front axle & bearings to do that work. They cannot. They were never designed to bear that kind of twisting load. It's very dangerous, as it is. Put the brace back on the bike, with or w/out the fender. The FORK BRACE more than a fender support.  Do not ride the bike the way it is.  R3~

There's enough risk out there. Keep safe. Gear up.  Good fortune,  R3~
