For Fans of Panthers
« on: January 26, 2023, 07:55:32 AM »
I found this in an online issue of Classic Bike.

No real details, just the photo and few words.

The mid-range drive out of corners must be prodigious!

No idea - but it reflects that sort of unconventional thinking, now doesn't it?  LOL!

In a featherbed frame, no less, reminds me of my misspent youth when I fitted my XLH motor in one of those . Peter

It regularly crops up on the Panther FB group. There's another guy making one too. I suppose it's an engineering challenge but a bit redundant. Definitely an attempt at making a silk purse out of two sows ears.

Here's my sows ear.

For nick 949. What is the small lever on the right crankcase for?

It's a half-compression lever to aid starting. Most also have a decompression lever on the handlebars. I don't bother with either.

I enjoyed that book, Nick.

From your comments, I'm guessing that you don't have one of these projects on the go.....

Having read the book (thanks ) you'll know that one cylinder has been more than enough for me.

In my youth I worked at small Silicone Valley shop. An employee there had a Panther. After work this girl came back in the shop and said her Corvair wouldn’t start. He pulled it with the Panther while I popped the clutch. Torque anyone?
