Aprilia has apparently retired the Mana 850 Auto
« on: June 21, 2015, 03:29:31 PM »
Why this bike never caught on more I don't know.  Always got very high reviews.  Only neg I heard was the price point suspension, but that was easy to fix.

Looks like Ape has replaced the real moto with a super scooter 850.   Hope they bring it back, I'd like to get one someday.

Has it been discontinued globally or just in the US? I thought they were still selling in Europe?

It doesn't worry or surprise me though.  Your average motorcyclist is deeply conservative and there has long been a resistance to 'Automatic' motorbikes. It's just like the decrying of fuel injection. It's largely based on ignorance and a refusal to countenance anything different. That's other people's loss though and you can't alter it as trying to argue a case just leads to people digging their heals in and if you try and argue the raving and insults start!

I've got mine. It's the best little tourer and city bike ever.

Price not that great???  $3,700 and 3400 miles?  That's a steal already.

it's been f/s about 2 months at that price.. so I'm judging by how long it would take me to unload if I don't like it.

My buddy Leo bought a 2010 GT w/6k miles for $4800 including a nice Aprilia jacket, Shuberth helmet and a cover. I found it for him on Craigslist, seller was a mere five miles away. Leo really likes it and has said his last two bikes could be the Convert and the Mana.

2 months is nothing.  2 years maybe you'd have a point.

suppose I get it for $3500 but it's not as fantastic as I'd thought and don't ride it.. will I have to wait 2 years to sell it for even $3,000?
I have the near perfect commuter for my 10 mile trip (Madass) and a Buell fully kitted for long distance and it's the best hooligan bike I ever had with the bags off. bring your Griso over and lets get at it.. I don't think the Mana can do that for me, I could be wrong tho..

We all take chances when we buy a bike, and most buyers don't think about unloading it right after.  The asking price is more than fair for a 6 year old bike with barely any miles.  Sellers don't give a crap about your ability to sell it if you don't "like" it.  I know I wouldn't.  Sounds like you're happy with what you have.

Cam I AM !  Happy that is..
but I'm already in that boat.. prices on Buells have tanked.. worse than a used Guzzi or Mana.... I'd like to try Orange (KTM not HD) but new bikes are somewhere over the horizon for me.
I just tell myself I've already gotten thousands of $ of enjoyment from the ULY, and I've had zero problems with it.
when I looked at the Mana I think one big turn off was no ABS.. could be remembering wrong tho..
ps, there's a nice used Convert not selling for 2 months here too ($3200)..  I'm trying to ignore/forget about .

I can understand your concerns. I would sell my GT in the US if I could but quite simply it's worth next to nothing. It's juat about to move from Orange County where it's been taking up space in Jon's shed for several years to Long Beach where one of the Ghetto Guys is going to get it running, ride it and mind it. If he likes it 'I'll sell it to him but in all honesty even all luggaged up and with low miles I think I'd struggle getting Five G for it. I was thinking of shipping it to NZ but that would be more expense and I can hire a Guzzi off Dave Gale when I go there. I was thinking of shipping it to Bill Hagan and asking him to mind it but felt that was a bit of an imposition. At least where it's going it can be used and enjoyed. If he decides he doesn't like it? Well we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

As folks know I'm besotted with mine. If I had to get rid of either the Griso or the Mana the Mana would go but here, like the US, a Mana is almost valueless. Ideally what I'd like is to get a GT here as the fairing is much nicer than me screen set-up, the GT also has ABS which I found a boon on the Mana on dirt. Can't see it happening until I find a really cheap one though.

I really, really like the Mana. I spent most of a day test riding Guzzis and Aprilias a couple of years ago at Matthews Fun Machines. I was surprised that the Mana is the one bike I rode that day that I wanted to take home that day. But I felt that my Breva 1100 fits more or less into the same slot, so I ended up with a Shiver for a 2nd bike. Now if I end up with 3 or 4 bikes or something happens to my Breva...

One of my riding companions had a 2013 Mana that had been lowered an inch using an excellent aftermarket shock.  I probably rode it a couple of hundred miles.  It's a serious motorcycle.  You just have to get over the mental block on the automatic part.

There's a 9 mile stretch of road near my house that has some very serious curves on it (28 if my memory serves me correctly), including one down hill off camber one marked at 15 mph.  Prior to buying my Monster the fastest time I ever did on that road was on the Mana.  It's pretty amazing what an 850cc engine always running at optimum torque can to on a curvy road.

Anyway, she put about 5,000 miles on it in six months and traded it for a Sportster.  She says it's a tossup as to whether trading the Mana for the Sportster or marrying her ex-husband was the worst decision she's ever made.

Good grief! Someone buy it. It's a new, great motorbike for three grand. Even if you whip it mercilessly and unload it just before the first belt change for nothing it's still a bargain!

Really, if your usual commute is in traffic and you're riding a Guzzi? Park the Guzzi, save on maintenance and tyres on that and use it for what it's good for and usetheMana for what it is good for, and belive me nothing, and I mean NOTHING on four wheels costing less than $200,000 will take it in the 'Traffic Light GP'! Also no clutch, twist and go, (Unless you use the 'Gear' mode.) great economy, good Ergos and if the worst comes to the worst and it gets wrecked? Well who cares?

I sold several Mana GTs when I was at the dealer in Las Vegas (when they were here). Never had any complaints, when I tested them I loved 'em. One we tricked out with the factory luggage and topcase, the lowered rear suspension and shock upgrade, new fork springs, the whole kit. Turned it into one of the best small sports tourers I've ever seen or ridden - much better than any other I have experience with. The guy who bought it was about 5'7" and didn't weigh much. He took it for a couple weeks for break-in, brought it back for 1st service, and took it for a 4 month ride and no issues - he loved it.
