Part Number 879916
« on: July 06, 2015, 07:18:04 PM »
While doing a valve adjustment on my 2014 Norge, I found that one of the valve adjustment nuts was cross threaded from the factory.  When I went to loosen it it stripped and I'm now stuck waiting for parts from Italy.  I've ordered from three different places hoping one would get here soon, so far, nothing.
I was wondering if anyone out there might have any idea where I could find one?  Maybe off an old motor?  I'm located in California if that helps.

Thanks for any help, gettin' desperate!  Kris

The diameter and thread pitch would help.

My 2007 "Spare Parts Catalogue" has a column called "CODE" and the nut is 10034100.  Anyway, I need an adjusting screw which broke on the way back from the national.  (Long story short: a valve got noisy, took cover off, must have overtightened the counter nut 5k miles ago, Norge is parked at Mom's house)  I'm just going to call MPH in the morning.

For me, adj screw is 17034050, so I'll give them that number.

It does seem like there should be a wreck somewhere and/or the nut is common to a lot of other engines.  Will update tomorrow.  I'd like to read what you come up with otherwise.

Good luck,
Mike

Don't know the pitch count, the diameter looks to be about 5mm.  The threads are very fine.

While doing a valve adjustment on my 2014 Norge,

This is an 8 valve Norge, correct?

There might be an off chance that an aircooled VW adjusting nut might fit.

They changed the thread pitch on it when they came out w/roller rockers. I have fixed the same thing on others at 1st service.
I would try Riders Hill in GA, I had ordered some 3yrs ago, might still have them.

kris, did you get your part?

Devon at MPH has ordered mine, but with respect to your part number he said it wouldn't be a problem to order.  I should have asked whether that meant it's in stock in N. America.

Let us know how you made out,

Did they change the pitch Steve? I thought it was just that they went from a slotted adjuster to a 3mm Allen key adjuster? Not questioning your knowledge, just interested.

Edit. Just checked, yup, you're right old type/new type. Ya learn something new every day!

any chance you could chase the threads on the adjuster, and use a new nut? that and some gap filling thread repair or red loctite could get you through til the new parts show up

I tried the A8 nut, cranked it on, messed up the adjuster, THEN I looked at part #'s. Had to order & replace all of it.

Thanks for asking, Mike.  No, I called several places in the U.S.  I ordered from three of them but so far nothings showed up.  I then called Adam at Corsa Meccanica in Canada, he said he had both the nut and adjusting screw and shipped them on Tuesday, should be here on Monday.  My Norge has sat untouched for about a month, I'm sure I'll need to put the charger on it overnight before putting her back together.  Gettin' antsy!!

The adjuster itself looks to be in good shape, it is the nut that's stripped.  The problem is finding a new nut.  I probably could have tried what you said with the loctite or thread repair, but the part is so close to being here I'd rather wait a couple more days and do it right.
