fitting a 40mm head pipe set with crossover on a T-3?
« on: December 15, 2015, 05:43:45 PM »
Hi out there I am looking to swap out my Rennsport exhaust system (which I will have up for sale if anyone still wants that stuff)  and with switch over to the 40mm head pipe set with crossover for use with Lafranconi Competizione silencers for LeMans 850. In addition to  new exhaust gaskets what else will I need as far as  flanges and spacers sizes?

slather it with anti-seize at the joints so it'll come apart some day....40mm seems fat, but i don't know what fits

Why? Unless you do a load of porting work you'll just end up reversion problems at certain engine speeds? If cosmetics is more important? Fine. But it won't make the bike any faster.

You will need the flanges from an 850 lemans,  and spacers.  Both are avail from MG cycle if you're not concerned with OE.

ok I ordered the head flange for the lemans and the oversized 48mm clamp as recommended by mg cycle - The header pipes fit perfectly along with the new gaskets.  The problem is the fit with the 2 piece flanges and the oversized 48mm clamp. The two piece flanges seem to big and also fit really awkwardly in the head.  They also have a tapered edge (one side larger than the other) it seems they won't fit in the T-3 head so maybe I need to get the regular flange with the split and the smaller 44mm clamps? Any thoughts on this- maybe I can't fit this set up with a t-3?

to be a little more specific the smaller tapered side fits in the head but it's too loose.  The larger side of the flanges won't fit as they are too large.  When I take out the exhaust o- ring gasket and just fit the header pipe with the 2 flange pieces - it seems ti fit, but then I do not have a gasket in there - just the lip of the header pipe.  That doesn't seem right but maybe it is?

I have fitted the header pipes ok and now moving onto the crossover pipes between the mufflers - not sure on the fitment of the rubber o rings that are supposed to fit on the crossover pipes? any advice if these sit inside the muffler in the little lip or outside the crossover some how?
