1980 MotoGuzzi V50 ii

Hi All, new to the forum. I got this V50 ii the other day,  the picture makes it look better than it is. But it is actually in pretty good condition considering it was stored in a open bay carport for 20 years, completely undisturbed.  It had a cover over it. It is a complete tear down and rebuild.  In 6th gear the pistons are moving freely, and it has good compression on both cylinders. Am making a to do list, and reading the forum here.

Nice!  Only 3495 miles?!  I'd be tempted to replace rubber parts and ride vs. complete tear down.  Well, I guess brake rebuild would be nice too. 

I was very tempted by a V50 iii recently, still kind of wish I had bought it.

Hey Alpine, make sure you search the forum for Chuck in Indiana's threads on the v50 Monza and his v65 Lario project... they are the gold standard for smallblock guzzi build or refresh

You should also consider joining forums to reach out to like model owners.  Used to be a smallblock group at Yahoo Groups.  Now moved over to "groups.io".  Plenty of good maintenance info in those places.

6 gears , woops, meant 5 gears,   I ride a Beta Evo trials with 6, my brain got stuck.  Thanks for the info links/sources. The bike also came with original shop manual,  and a Cycle World September 1980 issue reviewing said bike,  with some polaroid's of bike when new.

A V50III is a wolf in sheep's clothing,. same same as a Monza. Almost too much fun if you have twisties to ride.

Can you determine the origin/brand name/vendor of the luggage rack attached to your bike?  I've never found one to fit a V50II, but would like to have one that could go on or off for trips or unusual cargo-hauling needs.  Apparently somebody did make and sell one at some point.

That's a Rack Factory rack. My Monza had one, but The Kid didn't want it and gave it away.

This '80 V50 II just left the shop on Saturday:



Needed some wiring work, brake systems filled and bled and other misc. work following a cosmetic freshening by the owner.

This '78 V50 arrived a week ago. Needs new wiring on the ignition pickups, brake systems rebuilt, a better breather box and probably much more before it's all over.

The late 70s MGNOC newsletters are full of praise for these bikes.I bought a new one from Larry’s cycle in Lockport I’ll for Deb in 79.she rode it to Maine and all over the Midwest until we sold it along with our other keys in84 due to kids arriving.Bought it back 20 yearsl later from the people who used it for a dirt bike fo😕 500.put it in the barn in 2010 where it sat until the boy who caused the original cleanedit up and it runs as good as ever.

Out of all my Guzzi's I miss my 1981 V50 MKIII the most. Fun little bike!

I've a V50 II in quite good shape, for sale. Small tear at the rear seam of the seat. Needs a replacement frt. engine cover and re-wire of the tail/stop, ts wires. Stored in my t-controlled, dry basement. I took it on to keep it from a nere do well. Seems like everyone likes V50's but me. I do have 2 Lario's; One with a hefty back story. Good fortune,  R3~
