LeMans V fork oils
« on: March 29, 2021, 07:11:45 PM »
The forks on my ‘90 LeMans match the ones shown in the Harper’s parts diagram for a ‘90 LeMans. They do not, however, match the ones in the shop manual.

These forks have a sealed cartridge which bolts to the bottom of the lower tubes.  This means that the oil in the fork legs doesn’t serve any damping function - all it does is lubricate the contact area between the fork tube and the fork lower.  The damping function, as far as I can tell, is performed only by the cartridge.

The manual calls for 3 oz of dextron in each fork leg.  This spec, though, is for the forks shown in the manual, not the ones on the bike.

So - what oil, and how much, goes in each fork leg?  Any ideas?

I’ve disassembled the cartridges, replaced the bad seal, and am filling each with 7 weight fork oil.

If you have adj knobs & nut for spring rate it's 70cc ea leg. I'm not looking what Harpers site says or shows.
