Your moving faster than I thought. Hadn't read the forum for a few days. Was going to come out and have a beer, but anyway maybe next time. Funny, a pic of your bike just popped up on the DOCWA Facebook page with the words "This bloke's from Victoria, 70km's ave speed, Respect". You obviously made an impression.
I don’t know how it got there.
I can’t even spell phacebook...!

I’m sorry but my tracker has stopped.......track ing.
Anyway, this is where I am in the grand scheme of things.

Also while we’re here, can anyone explain this...(after 15,000 km) ?

Ok, I’ll admit I fitted a new o ring chain and sprockets for the preparation, but the damn thing has not needed adjusting..!

The last three days add up to just under 1,500 km. I did some bigger distances because I had a predominantly tail wind and it seemed a shame to waste it.

When I was a young bloke of 14, I had a Honda SL70 exactly the same in every detail as this one..

Today at 70 kph with a 40 kph tailwind, I could hear the engine clearly above the other noise and my mind went back to when I used to ride (illegally) on the road for about 5 km to get to a mate’s place.
The engine of the 110 sounds identical to the SL70 of yesteryear and I wonder if there’s a subliminal connection to being a kid again..
I used to get up at dawn, make a couple of rounds of Vegemite sandwiches, put them in a Tupperware container and bungee them to the rear of the seat.
Mum used to leave 40 cents on the bench for a tank of fuel and I’d be off at dawn for the whole day...
Nothing’s changed...(‘hope it never does...).. :bike-037:

That chain should be toast by now! It looks as if it's running in grinding paste, not oil but keeps on going. No explanation from me, just thank your lucky stars and take the win.

I can't believe the progress your making. You must have a backside like an Aberdeen Angus by now.

Well youve lubed the chain and everything ekse within 2 feet......
Seems chain quality has improved over the ones from 40 years ago.

I would just like to confirm a few facts about taking a trip like this.
a. Since - has changed things, it is impossible to go on a long interstate motorcycle trip.
b. Shaft drive is preferred to chain for long distance touring.
c. If I am going on a long tour I should get a dedicated touring bike.

I think I have it clear in my head now

That’s indisputably true Steve if you look at it logically.
But....
If I was going to use logic, I would have taken the V85, but I know you well enough to realise your comments are somewhat tongue in cheek.
I didn’t take the Honda because it was the “right” bike, but it IS the right bike because it is demonstrably the “wrong” bike. Engaging in such a pursuit has it’s own set of unique challenges and rewards.
The big bike allows you to enforce your will, the little one requires that you adapt to the bike’s will.
I have been counselled constantly throughout this trip on various ways to make the bike “more suitable”, but I resolved to take the bike absolutely bog standard (except for the bigger tank) and do all the modifying to myself.
Tomorrow is the last full day I willl do on this trip and it’s true that I faced the worst headwinds of the entire trip, I had to change back to 3rd gear and accept 60 kph for 150 km. It’s a lot different when you’re facing a relentless headwind with failing light in 7 degrees Celsius, than telling everybody about what you’ll do when it happens, but I just told myself that the destination was 180 k’s away and imagined I was doing 75 km/h.
Your backside does not know the difference, after all I would not balk at 180 km @ 75 kph, so why is 150 km @ 60 kph any different ?
Short answer is....it isn’t.

This is tomorrow

It's been a while since I've looked at this thread and it's grand to see that you're progressing well Huzo

It strikes me that in the garage I have the POS (aka a Yam TW125) that might be suitable for this sort of mission but I'd have to do about 27 laps of the uk to get to your sort of mileage!

Do John O Groats to Lands End and back, or over to Calais and up to Nordkapp and back. It’s only 30% of the Oz trip, but you could do it three times...!
How about onto the ferry, Calais to Stelvio to Transfagarasan Pass then home via Sicily ?
If you do this once...

Then turn around and do it in reverse, you have the same....

Thanks to all who wish(ed) me the best.
It does mean a lot when it’s sincere. There has not been one dissenting comment from the get go and I’m buoyed by the teaser that Tris might get his 125 out for a spin.
Remember, the concept is not mine and it’s not new.

great trip! i am completely jealous.
it takes some courage to leave your beautifull V85TT home, and leave on the posty.

Your trip reminded me of a friend who did some road trips on a velosolex a couple of years ago.
trying to find him online this showed up.

Well with 20/20 hindsight, your timing was perfect, if you left a month later you would be enjoying NSW lockdown and WA wouldnt let you through the door.
Glad you enjoyed yourself.
Careful when you take the other 2 for a run, all that extra power may come as a shock.....
