How are the Mosquitos where you are?
« on: September 18, 2022, 06:14:28 PM »
Here where I am in central IL, they are fairly aggressive, however, they are the weak little kind, that don't make a big impact, they suck, but could be much worse.  So far the tiny little bastard bitting nats haven't been bad either, I hate them far more, as when  the stick you, it itches for days.

Not as meaty as in years past, but good sauted with butter and fresh garlic, and tossed with sliced roma tomatoes.

Few mosquitoes here in WV because there's little standing water.

IDK if any scientific research has been done into this, but apparently mosquitos are repelled by some human scents.

One of my professors claimed that when he was young the mosquitos bit him constantly; after he spent 2 summers working in a paper mill they never bothered him again.  He also said that none of his coworkers at the mill were bothered by mosquitos, either.  Maybe some chemicals they were exposed to worked as a repellent.

Here on the outer Cape there have been some big washovers of Cape Cod Bay into the fresh water areas of the National Seashore. There is a new type of saltwater mosquito - very large, very numerous and very aggressive. I heard that they are so bad that one person went outside and came right back in looking like he was wearing a sweater.

Located on Lake Buchanan 70 miles NW of Austin, Texas.  No mosquitos but occasionally we have those tiny flying bugs the try to get into our ears and noses.  My hearing aids keep them out of my ears.

Although we live in the high desert, (The Verde Valley of Arizona), we still have little, tiny "SKEETERS"...and they can be annoying...  ....but NOTHING like where I grew up in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Where there is water of any kind....there will always be a...."SKEETER ISLAND!!"

Funny I was just observing w my daughter how few there are here…we were standing outside on a hot summer night under a huge streetlight. Nothing, no bugs, no spiders, no moths were flying around a light source at night…nothing in south central kahneckticut. Then I found this…

There seems to be a lot less bug splatter on the car and bikes the past couple of summers .

Haven't noticed mosquitos much unless I am in the deep woods.  Probably means we are breathing more chemicals from the trucks spraying the ditches.

Better than usual. But the chiggers were bad and the bites lasted longer.

I worked in a paper mill in my teens. They still love me and seem to be hungriest in the evening when I want to sit on my deck. :(

Some of it might be due to heat and drought.  When we finally got a big rain here a few weeks ago, we never got the expected onslaught.  I did get a few bites of some crawlers, might've been chiggers but they seemed to heal faster than that.  But the mosquitoes were much less a pest so far this year.

Not too bad in southern WI, but we were in Grand Marais during the summer and it was the worst I've ever seen. Didn't go out w/o netting. Someone up there told me that mosquito eggs are dormant until the time is right, so we were getting two years worth. Dunno if it is true, but it felt right.

I have been in 26 states this Summer and not once have I been plagued by mosquitoes. I don’t know what that means regarding climate. I think I was only caught in the rain once (Marquette MI) while traveling.

It means you weren't where the mosquitos are.  Were you camping in the woods near water in all 26 states?
