Circa 1980, I rode across the Golden Gate Bridge from Sausalito into San Francisco on my Kawasaki H2 in a rain and wind storm. The bridge was swaying so much it affected my ability to stay in my lane, but I was the only one on the bridge. When I got to the toll booth to pay my dollar, the uniformed men and women there were roaring with laughter, and they waved me past, refusing to accept my dollar toll.

This starts to be bit too cold. Not that I could not still handle it, but it is not nice anymore.

almost too cold to scratch up a peck of clams today, 5 degrees and three inches of frozen mud. Broke two tines off my favorite hoe but in the end came home with dinner.

When there is black ice. That's too cold for me. This morning on the way to work in the car at -2.4 degrees C she was slipping a bit. Not biking weather for me anyway.

My commute is roughly 7.8 miles one way and we do get snow around here. After a few days the roads dry out and if you don’t mind riding in the dark in the AM and cooler temps then you can ride here throughout a good part of the winter months. First week of Jan 22 I rode in at 6:55 AM and it was 18 degrees with dry roads. Downright balmy compared to some temps I’ve seen in northern Maine and on the plains of North Dakota.

Forgot to add: our garage is unheated but insulated. I can tolerate working on something out there into the low 40s but below that I’d call it quits.
