Called Piaggio today
« on: April 28, 2015, 11:50:14 AM »
I actually got through on the second call, looking for my paint code. I gave them my serial number, they have my bike in their system but no paint code. They said they will call me back later today or tomorrow. Any wagers?

Could it be that the plastic tanks aren't painted but that the color is part of the plastic? I haven't really looked closely enough but if so, there might not be any paint codes.

There is something on the panniers. They are pp plastic, black, with the white, I assume, paint on them. My bike fell off the center stand and gouged the right hand one, exposing the black plastic. I believe it is a catalytic paint, and would like to make it original, so, I hope to get the paint code. Guzzi doesn't sell just the lid, gotta buy the whole pannier for about 900 canadian.

My body shop has a camera connected to a computer. Without codes, they matched the pearl white (3 part) paint on my cal 14 saddlebags.

At least your Norge fell off its center stand. Mine decided not to balance any longer but to fall over when I dismounted and began to walk away without first putting down the kickstand. Darn bike!

We could swap panniers since its my left one that is scratched! Oh, wait, that won't work...

At first, I was determined to spend my insurance money having the lightly scuffed bits replaced, but then I saw the light. Moto Guzzi owners are supposed to be cheap, so I decided to pocket the money and live with a few scuffs.

Anyway, regarding the paint code, I have no idea, but I, too, would like to know. Not that I will give my pannier to a repair shop to be repainted, but it might help me shop for the right color of nail polish!

Spoken like a true Guzzista. My uncle-inlaw? used to have a body shop and now has a auto shop, he offered to help fix it as he thinks my Norge is "a very nice motorcycle". So, if I had to pay shop rates I would be doing something else, like stickers or truck liner. But, I need that effin' code. Come on, Piaggio, gimme a call. And my bike really did tip off the center stand. Was my fault, though.

Yup! ;-T

I had the local shop paint the bags on my 1150RT and it was a perfect match (no paint code).

My own experience with these camera scans is mixed (so to speak  :D).

VERY expensive for touch-up vials.  And, surprisingly, more of the "isn't close good enough?" variety than spot on.

Granted, I've only worked with the smallest of batches, but for touching up nicks, scratches, chips, etc., I'll go with fingernail polish.  Yes, really; cheap, something's always very close, and it's "forgiving" of botching the job.  Find a car that has the closest match and go the dealer for a little bottle.

OK, back to my G&T on the porch after my first "check-out ride" on the Norge today.  Fixed my ABS, but broke my Stebel  Win some; lose some.   :D

The tank on my red Breva 1100 had to be painted because of it being scuffed up at the dealer, painter matched it perfectly and it has held up according to the present owner.

I've met interesting folks while looking for nail polish.  Take in a bit of tupperware.  I have some personal experience in how that makes the explanations more credible.   ;D

I spent a good bit of time trying to find the paint code for my red 1200 2v Sport, the code I did find no one had heard of. So finished up getting the local body shop to match it.

I would imagine that matching 3 part pearl white is tough if not next to impossible. All I can say is the little band of vietnamese panel beaters near me did it superbly. Could not tell it from stock...

I just went to the auto supply store and bought a couple of cans of "red" to match the scuffed up bags on my (+50,000 mile) Norge. The road rash now looks red and no one seems to notice.

Big surprise...no call. I'll pester them tomorrow, just to see if they a) remember me asking and b) will actually give me the code. I emailed them 3 days ago, have not received a reply from that either. Ever call Cabella's? I had a human answer after 1 ring and solved my issue without passing me on. Guzzi needs some corporate lessons on customer care, and parts service. Volvo Penta guarantees parts within 72 hours from Sweden to your closest dealer using Fed Ex. Why can't Guzzi do that, I ask?

Volvo Penta... don't they surcharge by the piston?
Guzzi Piaggio ... don't they surcharge by the delay?

... and truly amusing to hear we should find a good local body shop willing to touch a bike.

Nothing too interesting. I called back, I'm dealing with "TJ", female. Very polite. Said she passed this on to the "Technical Department" and hasn't heard back, apologized for not returning my call. She is going to follow up, but the tech guys may have to call Italy. She doesn't have the paint code available when she enters my serial number...

Does anybody know the estimated head count of the Guzzi organization?

The larger an organization, the less your chance of getting communication from the right people.

Periodically I try to learn details regarding Intel motherboards. Given that we buy less than a thousand a year, I may as well be a gnat buzzing. The response you've received sounds pretty good for a small organization. Not satisfying, I know, but not surprising.

Good to  know.  McMaster-Carr is exceptional too.  There is no sales department, customer service department, etc., the person who answers the phone will help you with any or all of that stuff.  If you want to return an item, you can just ship it back to the return address on the box it came in.  You don't even need a receipt or invoice number.  I asked about that and was told "we can see the address of the person who sent it back, so we know who it came from, and will credit your account."
