I had a friend recently 3D print a Morini part for me and while he was at it had him do a small batch of similar tools. All of them are gone, given away to friends.

My small block dipstick solution was to drill a hole in the cap just off center ,so you don’t hit the metal & put a 1/8 “ diameter “hairpin” through . It positively prevents cap from backing out & gives ya that wee bit of leverage to unscrew it too . All for about two bits, .25$

Sorry Greer my limited tech abilities don’t allow, however if ya put a piece of 1/ 8 in. Tape across the top of the dipstick knob a bit off center then ( with the dipstick clamped in a vice by the dipstick ) figure about halfway down the knob carefully drill through the knob &viola . Put your hairpin through hole & your dipstick can’t back out , pull pin halfway out & you’ve got enough leverage to unscrew it . And no gaudy thing flapping about on your key ring , fouling the ignition key & such .

Why would one keep it on the ignition key ring?

I actually use it to hold ALL the bag keys (since we've got two HB sidecases and three topcases for use across the fleet).

Anders Holt who used to be on the site until he got out of bikes used this method.  He did have a photo of it up but it was years ago.

Was conversing with Chuck last week about this very same thing.  Shouldn't be hard to make one.  I have decided to make the handle slightly longer than the ones shown; I have suffered the slippery foot syndrome and don't intend to suffer it again.

Save carrying the pair of pipe tongs that I use at the moment.

I remember Anders fondly, from the 750 Yahoo Group (now passed to Groups.io).  So he got out of bikes?  Is that what happened?

I seem to remember his last post.  Upon retirement he gave up his beloved Breva and bikes in general and concentrated on pushbiking.  For those who say "you can't tour on a smallblock", Anders would jump on his Breva and do 5-6 thousand kilometers around Europe at the drop of a hat.

I too remember Anders fondly.  When I had languished in the doldrums for about two years because the split cage Guzzi-special bearing (made of unobtanium ) that 5th gear runs on was unavailable, it was Anders that saw one for sale in Europe and sent it over to NZ.  A great guy.

Hi Folks,
My neighbour made me two of these tools, took 90 minutes each to 3D print, a few cents worth of plastic. The design is available free here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3992120. Lots of libraries have public 3D printers I’m told.
Cheers

Thanks for that Ozzydog.

We have friends coming over this evening; not only does my friend have a pretty reasonable 3D printer but he and his techie type son are building a super-ringstingthingrayguncar one that will print basically anything out of anything.  He does say that Titanium will be a bit beyond it's capabilities though.

it is a pretty reasonable size though; he got me to drill and shape all the holes on the platen as he does not have the gear to do that.

I got my friend to look at the file, he said yes, sent it on to him and it should be good to go.  He reckoned he can make the handle a bit longer too.
