Even work can't hold me down. I am able to go home for lunch almost every day. If the weather is good I usually take a bike for a spin. Today it was the Lemans!

I'm in Nelson, lots of sun

I was born and bred in Golden Bay. Also did 2 years in Nelson.

Have you caught up with Cali (on this site) up there?

Mouser is fairly demanding of pilot skills. "Are you bringing your A game, boy?" "Uhhh.. not really. We haven't flown since last fall, you know.." "Ok, just be very gentle..."

Thanks. The recovery *is* going very well, indeed. I was fortunate enough to be in pretty good shape and healthy except for that cancer thing. I'm pushing myself a little.. if you don't use it, you *do* lose it. Rode the Monza to Guzzi lunch and broke in the new tires today. A little over a hundred miles, and that was enough. It's officially time for a beer.  :boozing:

My (now retired) dentist mate used to be absolutely emphatic that when patients had an extraction or major dental work they should treat it as a full blown medical procedure and give the body a chance to recover without the immune system becoming stressed. Good, Dusty.  Like I mentioned on the phone, Monday, I'd finally decided that I'd worked long enough. This little bout with the cutter may have had something to do with it but still.. my parents worked me like a borrowed mule on the farm starting when I was 8 until I got away at 18. Worked for GM for 30 years. Just realized that I was on my 30th year of working for Ed the Rocket Scientist. Hmmm, I'm 72, and have been working for 70. Time to take a break. Told Ed to send TJ down, and I'd train him.

He's doing really well, as I knew he would. It'll take a while, but he *will* be able to take over. He went to a steel mill with Ed today, so I got a break.  Dusty said whether I rode or flew to take pix.
Decided to give Mouser a go. Last week, I sat on her longeron, decided I might not be strong enough yet to get *out* once I worked my way in.  You sort of put Mouser on. I'm getting stronger every day, though..so..
Pushed her out and did a *very* thorough pre flight. We hadn't flown since last fall.

We flutter tested to 205 mph.. those are mph on the airspeed indicator, I'm no sailor.  Rate of climb depends on prop and version of the VW engine. Right now, Mouser is built for economy. 4 gallons per hour at 130 cruise. About 500 fpm climb with a cruise prop, flying solo.
I'd say about 60 horsepower with this setup.
My favorite airplane.. it's just plain fun to fly. Truly a stick and rudder airplane that you have to fly every second.

Dusty,

Wonderful week in all.

Mom turned 95 yesterday.  Wow.

Alzheimer's clinic opens on the 13th though--ugh for 3 weeks of chaos.

Planning a possible Alaska trip, and multiple trips to Durango.

Retirement is good.  Riding new roads on the V7R with a good friend is a true blessing.  Still wonder how you kewl guys go so far and so fast.

Had a wonderful weekend. Had cousins visiting this week and a whole lot of bakin' going on, so I gained five pounds. Gail, who has really entered into the motorcycle culture, said "If you get any fatter we'll have to ride a Harley."  We did a 100-mile loop into the mountains on Saturday, two up on the F650, including about 10 miles of dirt and gravel. Then I took the Triumph for its first work-out of the summer -- about 60 miles including a 20 miles of fast uphill at full throttle to seat the new rings. Topped out at 85mph. Whee!

And -- the guy who gave me the hulk back in 1986 says he wants to buy it back, if his wife approves. Since I don't trust the drum brakes on Colorado downhills, I'll sell it (and the Beemer) to buy something with ABS. Maybe a small block.

Ehhh..kinda sucked. Took the newer pirate bike out for what was..up until on the return leg I got 10 miles from the house....a great ride till a bunch of motor racket, no oil pressure, and a glide path into a convenient parking lot scuttled the day. Drain plug, filter, and dipstick thingie all present, accounted for, and not the source of the bike's malaise. Root cause: TBD. Age: 73,000 mi.

Thank goodness for spares.

Busy day. (Never been so busy since retirement).

Went in to son's work as I had made up a replacement "special tool" on the lathe for him. The old model had a design flaw and finally broke; the new one is better, stronger, faster, Got in to his work and found that the roof of his building he leases had sprung a leak and poured water over his lathe. Did a strip, dry and clean, greased the appropriate grease nipples  and found while doing all that that the belt adjustment had been Micky Moused. The adjustment looked to be a stupid arrangement anyway, so we started modifying. At the moment a block of wood is acting as a belt tensioner, but with the aid of some scrap steel, an old rack and tie rod end and a welder we have a basically no cost (Guzzi content) adjuster that will work 20 times better that the original. He also now has an additional 1/2"AF socket that was a vital part of the previous system.

Everyone is happy. :thumb:

Nice ride around the area this morning.  Time to get titled/plated in NC, make the move to the mountains official.  Duc ran great and I'm now getting comfortable snaking up the blind steep driveway.  Tropical Storm Bonnie is closing in so might be an indoor holiday weekend with the fam.

Dusty,

Mostly grand, mostly.  Father in law with Alzheimer's decided to go for a "walk" yesterday.  Just went out back door--he does not verbalize much so "surprise".  Fortunately my wife saw him, and went after him.  He had gotten to end of block, and then was going who knows where. Wandering is a risk.  So,  we get to deal with this new behavior.  Likely we will change the front and back door locks so they require a key for exit.  He has been combative, very OCD, and also getting "stuck" dressing, especially with his belt.  We return him home late Tuesday.  It has been a tough 3 weeks.  Just waiting for the big crisis event.

Very close friend here in Houston had younger brother suicide, then a few days later his mother died.  Of course they were (are?) stuck in floods near Magnolia and can't travel.  Lovely cluster-+uck.  Plan to talk and or see him shortly, if roads open.

Off to get FIL dressed and fed.

Took the new-to-me Mille for a 90-minute ride including a fast run up to 10,000 feet. Plugs look good so I won't futz around with the jetting for now. Then I mounted my old Shoei fairing (from the T), and built a clamp to fix Gail's backrest to the grab rail. Heading out for our first day tour.
