The nice salesgirl at the bike shop gave me a pitying "where have YOU been for the last century?" sort of look, and sold me some cleated shoes and pedals where you step down onto the pedal and a trap locks the shoe to the pedal. You twist your foot to the side and pull it out to release your foot for when you stop.Well .... you remember "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In"? The skit where the guy rides around on the tricycle, then stops and just falls over? Even though I had practiced some in the apartment, when I went out on the road and pulled up to the first traffic light, I did exactly that. Came to a stop, could NOT release my shoe from the pedal, and just went right on over onto the road. Even LAYING there, I couldn't get my feet off the pedals.
fresh Maine blueberry pie..Life is good,,, ;D
I can't stop salivating over this pie....Thanks for the pictures Chuck! ;-T Looks like you're having a good time. -Joe
I bought a Specialized road bike a few summers ago, my first with clips. Salesman told me they work like ski bindings, kick out from the side. Seemed OK a few times in the store and I headed out for the 10-mile ride home.I hadn't even gotten out of the parking lot when I came to the first stop and realized I didn't have a foot clear. The bike toppled over and my head bounced off the raised curb. Even through the helmet it rang my bell and it was a few seconds before I could pick myself up. Without a helmet, I'd have been headed to the hospital or morgue.ATGATT is a good rule for bicycles as well as motorbikes.
So how was it ? :) :D ;D >:( :( 8)Dusty
Well my day was GREAT!Went to the Buell & Italian Bike Festival at East Kirkby for the 25 Anniversary of the museum. http://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/They ran the Lanc so I was about 30 feet in front of 4 Rolls Royce Merlin's giving it the beans . Why would anyone want an inline 4 when you can have 4 V12s in a line ;-T
Awesome ride today, about 440 miles. Early morning start from Evergreen, CO, to Laramie, WY, then west across the Medicine Bow mountains via Snowy Range Road to Riverside, WY, then high speed (100-120 mph) to Walden, CO. There's nothing after Riverside but miles and miles of miles and miles. Then, south to Winter Park, CO, via CO 125 Willow Creek Pass. I love that road -- perfect for bonding with your bike. Zero traffic, smooth road surface, continental divide, fresh tires, continuously linked curves. Lunch stop in Winter Park, then 50 miles to home via Berthoud Pass.

Back in northeastern Ontario again, looking for bears and washed out roads. So far no success, just smooth riding, perfect (cool) weather and no bugs. An easy 400 miles on the Eldo today. Now beer and chips for supper in front of the motel tv. Life is good.Nick.
Two of the basic food groups . :D Are we to anticipate another travel doc?Dusty
