New EV?

 :thumb:

Picked it up in Omaha this afternoon at an independent shop.

Clean, low mileage 2004 Cal EVT-II.  Harper's outsider, AGM battery, and some other nice touches.

It has a MGNOC sticker, so the PO may be around here on WG.

They look good to go far & sweet. Should do you well. Nice & quiet running. I'm used to the racket, but Guzzi made a mistake by stopping the production of that motor. Just think if the Norge or Breva had hydro valves. Go & go & just change oil.

Very Nice and very complete !

The matching factory windscreen, toe deflectors, and side cases add a lot of value for sure.  I also have an '04 EV in Vintage Red (Marilyn Merlot), and it's my current favorite bike.  The hydro motor, tubeless rims, good engine paint, and good ECU are all nice features.  Long may she run !  No doubt you are aware of the triple tree recall and single plate clutch issue.  Didn't you have one of these years ago ?

So here's the story?.....been gone from here awhile and missed it.

We'll have to get MD and some of the other gang for lunch before the weather gets too cold.  I got the EV back.  It's got a few scrapes but looks good except for the left pedal trim ($160!) and windshield.

I've been a Rocker wannabe for many years and owned many of the same bikes as you: LeMans 5 CI, V11 LeMans and Sport 1100.  IMHO the LeMans 5 is the best of the lot.  Not sure I'm headed down the Cal road just yet.  But time will tell.

We have owned two, bought the first one new in 2004, a work horse in travelling all over, from Maine to South Dakota, Alabama, Canada...

Hey Rob

Felix is still riding the '04.  Mileage is unknown, but estimated at around 300,000 (miles).
It's looking a little rough and needs a clutch but the engine has never missed a beat.

Cheers!

Performed a little surgery on the stock windscreen.  Lopped off six inches and man!  What a difference!

Not only can I see much better, but now my helmet is in clean air.  No more air pounding on top of my helmet!

Nice solution !  Windscreen improvement is very rider specific.

Drilling a couple of 3 inch holes fixed it for me...

I'm a fan of windscreen holes, and may yet add some.

I had two problems with the setup as it came to me:  1) Looking through the stock windscreen and the Laminar Lip was murder.  Lots of distortion.   I'm more used to sportsbike-style fairings which are well below my line of sight.  2) The headache-inducing wind vibration on top of my helmet was terrible.

This 6-inch lowering of the screen seems to be about a 90% fix.  Only 70 miles with the cut-down screen so far, though.  A few more miles and I'll make a final decision on the holes.

Michelin Road Classics.  Can't wait to break them in!

I had wanted the Pilot Activ, but it's apparently discontinued.

The old ME33 on the front was date coded 2005.     and mounted backwards.

Have to agree with TravlR and Rocker about the LeMans V. Great bike. I had one for a few years until one fateful night I tried to stay awake too long and fell asleep at the wheel. Insurance totaled it but it wasn't really that bad. Sydney Conn bought it from the insurance company for his land speed efforts which he did quite well. I replaced it with an 1100 Sport that I amassed 120,000 miles on. That was a great bike too. But time marches on and this old body doesn't tolerate sport bike ergonomics anymore. And that's ok, I'm perfectly happy riding my 02 California Special Sport.
To the unwashed they see it as an ugly old man's cruiser. But you guys and I know that under that not so attractive bodywork is a race bike frame and an engine that just won't quit.

Looks like we're soul brothers now Rocker.
I have also recently acquired a beautiful 2004 EV Cali, thanks be to Mister Roper who referred me to this machine.
So it was very original and has had the recalls done as well as a gearbox restore by Pete , changing those plastic caged mains to proper metal. If yours isn't done I suggest you keep a weather eye on oil in the bellhousing cause those plastic cages are not long for this world.
So for me , like you, I hated that huge screen thingy, hate looking through layers of perspex and hate that turbulence.
My first act was to remove it. I rode it like that for a week and then fitted a little bikini fairing that I have had on a few bikes over the years.
Turns out it suits this Cali.
Next thing was those horrible footboards. Luckily I found a bloke with a set of lower rails and footpegs from a Jackal, complete with levers.
Fitted those but missed the bling which I ordered from Harpers. Sorry but I have to say Harpers service was not as expected. After a couple of weeks I realised there was no tracking number so I contacted them to be told that they were in a turmoil , apparently from other reports, a continual state in their company, and that I would have to pay more than expected for the freight because they didn't have their act together online.  They claimed they had  contacted me but that was not so.  A shame, I have dealt with them before and I hope they lift their game.
Anyway, I eventually got the bling and it didn't fit , didn't have clearance for the levers, so I belted it till it did, and it's OK, just a bit rough if anyone bothers to look.
Next thing was the riding position with those bars. My issue is we have a lot of potholes round here and sitting bolt upright gives you a bad jolt right up your spine if you are unfortunate enough not to be standing on your pegs.
So I found a set of wide dirt bike bars that have the right diameters centre and outer but are much lower than the standard bars. Only problem was the inner diameter was different for the bar end weights, so I had to improvise some rubber to fit in there.
Result is I have total control of my pedals, what a difference to gear selection and ease of braking, I look over a bikini fairing that pleases me, and I lean forward so bumps don't jar my back and I feel more in control.
What a wonderful machine.
 Here's the original bike .

Then I fitted the small fairing.

And here it is with the footpegs and lower bars.

Only 38,000K's on the clock. I think this will see me out. Love every moment on it.
