Moto Guzzi V7 Ride report. (New Zealand)
« on: March 27, 2017, 01:51:12 AM »

I recently had 6 days away on my V7. The first day was a trip from the lower North Island to Tokomaru Bay on the East Coast. I met with a group of Italian Club (I.M.O.C) riders and spent the night in their company. The second day was a ride around the isolated East Coast road and then on to Hamilton. The third day was a trip to Raglan on the West Coast and then a short hop up the back roads to Waiuku. The forth day was spent in the company of Tony, my brother in law. He arranged a loop around the back roads and included Motorcycle shop visits. The fifth day was straight down the Island to Taupo. The last day a short run home.  A total of almost 2500km. The bike behaved perfectly and Fuel consumption was between 22km/litre and almost believe it or not 25km/litre. Combined with the large fuel tank this bike has a great touring range. These are great little bikes.

I had trouble with Google maps so this is it

Nicely done. Pretty much an ideal mount for riding paradise. How well does that ribbed seat work?

You did well to make Hamilton in 2 days, East Cape is quite isolated.
A nice ride is over the Gentle Annie between Napier and Taihape, I did that a couple of times last January. Unfortunately my riding buddy spent a month in Tauranga hospital after crashing badly in the gorge near Opotiki.
Another favorite is from Fielding to Mangaweka via Rangawahia, that's my old stomping ground, I used to work in Wanganui and Palmerston Nth

The seat has a similar feel to the original dual seat but it does restrict your movement. you can't slide back to change position.
Some of the roads were perfect for the V7 but it did well in all ways.

I ride the back roads around Kimbolton, Apiti, Rangiwhahia and Hunterville a lot on both of my bikes. The stretch of corners just north of Kimbolton is an awesome experience. The best bit of road I found on this trip was Highway 22 from near Raglan up to Tuakau. the southern 20-30km is almost perfectly suited to a light easy to ride bike like the V7. 3rd and 4th gears swooping the tight corners and no traffic.

A nice ride is over the Gentle Annie between Napier and Taihape,

Did that back in '67 with two guys on a 305 Dream. Not tarsealed, rough as guts and in the middle of a blizzard. Even Landrovers were tuning back. Couldn't even find the road, just rode on the flattest bits and hoped the road was there. It was shall we say, exciting.

Some nice piccies there Von. Never done the East Cape. Looks like a nice trip on a bike. The 22km/lit is about what the Breva does usually, but will do the 25 on the open road. I find the Baby B a really great tourer myself.

Sometimes I am too. It's Police driven I believe. They seem to have a 'thing' about it. It's as though they would really like to be walking in front waving a red flag! On the other hand there are many, many roads where 60mph is quite enough.

Sounds like an excellent trip all round. The East coast of the North Island is an area that I'm not very familiar with, especially the southern part. It's on the 'schedule'.
