1906 Cadillac. NGC. Better video added.
« on: January 06, 2018, 12:20:14 AM »
One of the treats of living in our quiet little country town is the frequent sighting of a 1906 Cadillac chugging along the road.
The owner is a local farmer and he uses the Caddy to get around the district. He tells me it is the easiest vehicle to get out of his shed.
I went to the local store and parked outside was the Caddy, thump, thump, thump, idling away about 400 or so RPM. I had a talk with the owner and asked if he had any videos online. He provided me with a link to an article. Only a short video. Enjoy.

I hope to get a better video when I coax him into giving me a ride in the beast.

My video.

Enjoy this, I certainly did.

This right here is why I'm always pooh-poohing the raging optimists who are predicting the total overturn of today's technology in favor of some Buck Rogers flavor-of-the-month being touted in the popular press.

112 years old

Four rubber-tired wheels
Burns gasoline
Pistons going up and down turning a crankshaft
Front wheel steering, steering wheel, instruments

and all the rest.

I mean, 112 years!   Most people had never seen an airplane or a telephone, and the basic technology hasn't changed!

Good on 'im for keeping it on the road.   Inspiring story!

Great video......
And yeah, basic technology hasn't changed which is rare in these days.

I mourn the disappearance of simplicity in automobiles.
Yeah, the new stuff lasts longer, is more dependable, and more comfortable, I get the appeal.
But the desposibility of them, light materials and synthetics just makes them appliances to me.
I guess that makes me a Geezer......well, actually I am at 66.

Tell the owner how much we enjoyed that bit of time travel .

Amazing how similar the countryside resembles much of rural Oklahoma .

:1: When I was a kid, the neighbours had a Model T that they use to take on Sunday drives.  I loved hearing that thing come up the hill, and hitting its stride on the main road!
