Help me identify the bits and pieces on this beast.
« on: February 06, 2019, 04:10:18 PM »
Currently for sale in New Zealand.
It is a 1000 engine with some mods to the carbs and ignition.
It’s supposed to be a healthy runner.
It was sold some time back and advertised as a having a convert engine.
What can you tell me?
Cheers, voncrump

Hard to tell from cell phone photos. The carbs are possibly late model G- 5. The mag wheels came with later round heads as well, G-5, SP, Convert. Front fender could be SP, possibly  CX. Fairing looks early Le Man. Tank was used from 850 T through G-5. Triangle side covers look aftermarket, as does the exhaust. Can't make out the rear sets. Rear fender?? I'm guessing monster G-5 bitsa.

All what shorty said, plus T/T3 factory seat. if convert engine, the numbers stamped should start with VG (same is true for G5 and SP)

Edit, something looks strange about the front engine cover - nice, but strange.

The PHF carbs are a good thing, more tuning parts. They may be 30 or 36mm

I can just barely see '32' on the RH carb but I'm still on my first beer...stay tuned :boozing:

Yes, it seems to say 32 on the carbs as well as some fabricated manifolds.
This could be a sorted strong runner.

The rear fender looks like series 1 Lemans 1 with an odd tail light. The only difference between a Convert and a G5/SP motor is the cam and front cover. I can't see for sure but, it looks like the front cover may have the fitting for the trans pump.

2:1 headers are not stock. Would be nice to see a left side pic.

I had a set of 2:1:2 headers on an old Convert. Wished I'd kept those

The header pipe looks like a common lightweight replacement at that time, but name escapes me ....it was a 2-1-2 arrangement. Somewhat thin they dropped a lot of weight from stock, but fragile. (Edit: Turin gets the name-Rennsport)

Chopped in the middle and I think a "Cherry Bomb" muffler added

Looks like Agostini rear sets . If the carbs are 32 or even better 34's than it should run like a peach.

It might be a bitsa... but I kinda like the job done to it. I think i would be looking for a V7 sport/Lemans style tank for it... but it looks nice.

Sure, it's a bitsa.. but so what? Looks to me that someone that knows what they are doing put it together.
I'd look good on it. :thumb:

Gidday Muzz.
Im in the lower North Island.
I have noticed this bike for sale both times and if it has done a trip around the South Island and it still looks that clean around the mechanicals then it might be worth a bid.
Sensible mods and a few extra parts with it.
We will watch with interest.

Looks like a 76 Le mans rear mudguard but the light looks wrong.

Rennsport made an exhaust like that, but it was 2-1-2. I like it !

Prior to doing the South Island trip the bike belonged to a good friend of mine in Whakatane. I have ridden it and found it to be a good, strong runner which handled well and sounded great. It may have been brought in from Oz and possibly raced there. If you look closely there is evidence of a repair on the crank case just under the right hand side carb. This is what led Graeme, my friend, to think that it may have some Convert bits.

I certainly enjoyed my ride on it. It seemed to have a bit more torque than my T3 but was otherwise pretty much similar.

Definitely worth a bid if you're keen. Hope this helps.
