I spent the morning checking the belt on the generator thinking that might be an issue for my Norge and it was a little loose, but made no difference on the charging when tightened up. Double checked the 40amp fuse block for the generator, sprayed it down with DeOxit and switched to another fuse, then it went from 13.5 to 13.6-7 when the engine is revved up but settles to 13.5 at idle. My next hunt is for the #6 light relay but have no idea where that is located. I'm hoping that some dirty relay contacts will solve this problem but first I need to find the relay. Also cleaned up the positive harness contact to the battery but haven't checked the ground strap which might be a problem now that I think about it. The dashboard reading of the battery is way off but I remember a time when it was spot on, now it reads 12.5-6 when the meter directly attached to the battery reads 13.5.

Sounds frustrating, Dirk. I wonder why a small company like Moto Guzzi, with such small production volumes, goes to the trouble of making different final drives. Unless a version proved problematic, of course. For owners, the lack of/reduced compatibility is a negative.

Make sure the pinion nut has a good dose of threadlock on it…

IMHO, owning a 50 year old product should make any manufacturer smile. It's a testament to their reliability, R&D, quality, etc. Heck, if I'm running the marketing department for them, I'm going to try and figure out a way to get the message out to the masses. For example, there's commercials regarding pickups that goes something like "the longest lasting, most dependable pickups on the road".
Guzzi should mimick that and have multiple pictures or short clips of old high-mileage bikes in it and finish with a short slogan.
Then, open more dealerships so people don't have to drive all day to visit one
I think that type of marketing appeals to the kind of rider who is drawn to Guzzi anyway. What you're describing is likely something that appeals to 90% of WildGuzzi users, but not 20 somethings. There are tens of thousands of 50 year old Chevy's running around the USA, but I don't think they do much to spur new sales?

Congrats Paul - Love a story with a Happy ending! I know after my recent ordeal with wiring and ignition I feel a renewed sense of relief and excitement for VroomHilda!... I'm thinking of permanently slicing off the middle part of the fairing to further expose the beautiful motor and have easier access to dip stick etc. I already run with the lowers removed.
Thanks Mike! Very happy indeed with the results. A naked Norge is a Breva basically. Seeing the engine lump is kind of cool though. I know that having the fairings off makes it easier access for a lot of items. I do like the functionality also of the fairings for wind management which is superb on the Norge. I am contending with a slightly broken tab on a lower part of the fairing that I need to get plastic bonded. Once all of that is sorted, I'm going to paint all of the fairings a new color...time for an update after all of the years.

The problem is Moto Guzzi. If they don't build what the public wants to buy, no one should feel any guilt about not buying a new one. Right now, there is a 23 V100 Navale for sale in my area for the price of a V7 with 500 miles. It just does not whisper in my ear "take me home". I am sticking with my 1400 beast with 30,000 miles. Nothing else on the market right now does a thing for me. I love Harley, but they are digging their own grave right now and while sorry to see this, I feel no obligation to rescue the motor company.
Kind of ironic, as the 1400, as good as they are, where not a sales success.

People, mostly non riders are always surprised HOW OLD my Norge is when it looks so modern. Still.
True statement, for riders also. I was surprised also. Italian design . kk

When my '23 Navale was new it could not be shifted from 1st or 2nd into neutral when stopped even with quite a bit of force on the shift lever. It could be when the bike was moving. When I complained to the dealership all I was told was that all Italian bikes do that when they are new. So much for taking anything to this dealer, not the only issue I have had with them. Never to darken their doorway again. Anyway I just learned that while stopped the shift from 1st to neutral is easy, the gearbox will not pass neutral into 2nd. Pretty nice feature. I think now that maybe the mechanism that controls this was not working properly. The problem disappeared after approx 1,000 miles. I will have to look at the parts breakdown to see how this all works. kk
