1965 Wards 50.

2cd scoot, wards 250.

First powered two wheeler was a generic Briggs & Stratten powered mini bike with a slipping clutch.    That was around 1979 or 1980.   Then, I trade it towards an early 70's Yamaha DT100.   My parents made me sell it when I got caught riding it on the street.    I was 13.

Fast forward 30 years to 2011, my first "legal" motorcycle was my 2009 V7 Classic.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

1948 Matchless 350.  Rigid rear, the last of the wartime models.

I was 15 at the time, that's um um about 5*** years ago.  Sold it in 1980. Still had the original gearbox and flywheels. Had three different frames and about the same number of motors.  Didn't look like the original but it was still a 350 Matchless.

A small German Rex that I bought and rode in Dachau for about 35 dollars.  After my army discharge and return to the land of round door knobs, I bought a Harley servicar followed by a BMW R-26  Which I rode for about 6 months then traded for a 58 pan head 74inch.  By then I was addicted to motorcycles.

I bought the 400 new at 16.  It ran poorly more days than it ran well.  Quick and light little bike though on its good days.

The first street vehicle that I owned was my 1972 Kawasaki H2.  I bought it in '78 for $750, and I passed my license test on it.  I still enjoy riding it.

Wow. That was my second bike, for about that cost, at about that time. In Craig, CO. But you've still got yours, so I guess I didn't buy it from you.

1964 Yamaha 80:

Riiing-a-ding-ding two stroke in all its glory.

It is weird , I grew up around snorting spitting open pipe Brits and American bikes , my first motorcycle was a 500 Triumph ridden for 2 years illegally on a 5 horse MC license . But that range of Yamahas did and still does float my boat . Tried buying one that had been sitting in a field for years just to clean up and keep around to look at on rainy days .

My dad was a radiologist who only saw the good side of motorcycling.   Said that if any of us kids wanted to get physically messed up on a motorcycle, he'd do it personally, first, for a lot less money. He had the temper to follow through.

So, waited until grad school for my first motorcycle. A 1982 Honda CBX (pearl white sport tourer). I think I practically bought it just to look at the engine/exhaust/carbs. Made amazing sounds under serious acceleration. A bit much for a first bike. Paid for it, had the shop keep it and promise to refund my money if my stint at the local MSF course made it seem like I couldn't handle it. Idled so smoothly that I often looked down at the tach while waiting at a stoplight to see if the engine had stalled. (Haven't had that issue with the V7II).

In July, 1953, I bought a 1944 British "Excelsior" paratroop scooter.  Villiers "Junior Deluxe" 98cc two stroke, single cylinder engine, one speed, thumb lever clutch.  It folded up somewhat and it could be dropped via parachute to British paratroops for use in covering ground quickly.  Well, quicker than walking, anyway.

I kept it until 1955, when I bought a slightly used 1954 Ariel "Colt" 200cc single.  Sold that in 1956 to buy a near new 1955 Norton "Dominator 88" 500 twin.  That was a wonderful bike and I sold it in 1957 to buy a Velocette single to go racing on.

When I came home from Viet Nam in 1968, I had saved my money and went down to local BSA dealer in Bossier City and purchased the 650.
