Cali 1400 final drive leak
« on: August 08, 2022, 02:45:44 AM »
Hi all, I have a leak that looks to be the main seal in the final drive. I have removed all of the bolts holding the plate on at the back of the diff but can't get it to budge, has anyone taken one of these off, any tips?

Guzzi must not want anyone to take them apart - no mention whatsoever in the factory workshop manual.

I don't know if this will work, but here's how I remove the cover of Tonti rear drives when they're stuck on.

Removed all of the cover/flange bolts, inserted a suitably sized socket into the axle spacer, turned the legs of my smallest three-legged puller so that the "hooks" pointed outward and caught on the underside of the splines.

Thanks Charlie, I will see if I can make up some sort of puller, I'm guessing it is held on with some sort of gasket goo.

Wow, that is cheap but freight to Australia would kill it for me.

Pity they don't have the 2 threaded holes that allow you to use the flange retaining bolts to remove it
with , like on the Tonti framed ones ( as my Le Mans 2 has ) . Peter

That would be too easy Peter, I guess like everything today to do anything much more than putting petrol in the tank and air in the tyres they expect you to take it to a dealer but when the nearest decent shop is about 500km away there's not a lot of choice. I thought this was going to be pretty straight forward but no answers yet from this or the Guzzitech forum or four different 1400 groups on farcebook. We live in hope.

If I still had my 1400, at that price, I would consider buying that rear drive and put it on the shelf, just in case.

I've never seen any threaded holes on a Tonti rear drive cover/flange and I've had dozens apart. Perhaps a previous owner threaded yours.
