No. There is no oil cooler currently available. One is very difficult to plumb in. It is completely unnecessary unless you mistreat the vehicle.

G’day mate,

Hope you are enjoying your Guzzi.

If Pete says you don’t need one then you don’t!

How hot are you talking? I’ve been on my old bike (in traffic) 45 degrees with no issue. Sweating like a bastard I moved to the front of traffic - once up front I was happy.

Hope you aren’t seeing 50c most days!

It's probably not necessary either, but perhaps an extended sump for more oil capacity would make you feel warm and fuzzy.

I ride a V7 daily and live in Texas.  No issues.   Use the fancy synthetic 10W-60 oil that Guzzi recommends, I’m sure that stuff can take the heat.

If it worries you, just change the oil more often.

Seriously, don’t worry.   Just check your oil level regularly.

Two of the replies were from Australians, and I’m from Texas.  We know all about hot weather.

You could mount an aftermarket temperature gauge.   But I suggest not doing so.  It would only give you and others something to worry about.

Just ride the thing.   Have fun.

A company out of Europe used to offer a smallblock oil cooler that fit as a sump extender.  It routed the oil up to a radiator, and then back to the pump.  I  thought the Dutch co. TLM did it.  This would only be for the older V7/Breva/Nevada.

The factory also fitted an oil cooler to their desert racers in V35 and V65.  But to do it the bike had to run without an oil filter.  Definitely only for racing.  Here's a German link:  http://www.centauro.de/NTX/index.htm

Shai, I fitted a dual cylinder head temp gauge, that gives me how each cyl is running.  If they start to look hot, shifting down or up usually cools them off (a diff section of the map, perhaps?).  If interested I can give details. Pic below

CHT temps will depend more on mixture / airflow over the cylinders- different to oil temp - but useful to have.

I run aero engines which tend to be well instrumented, and as well as my V7 I have a BMW R100R.  Both with minimal instrumentation.  For UK use I have removed the oil rad on my BMW (but added an oil temp gauge and extended sump)......in UK a hot day is 25C....and I get 110C max oil temp.
Is an oil temp gauge dipstick available for the V7?
I would think your best mod would be an extended sump.  And always use synthetic 10/60 oil.

In UK we do not overheat, but we do get cold fingers!

I believe you're mistaken. Aren't the oil capacities the same?

The III certainly doesn't hold the almost additional liter that my MkI with the sump extender holds.

the III pan was just redesigned to get rid of the stupid dual drains. I believe it actually holds an once or two less. always start with 1.5 liter and add as needed.

I went with a sump extender for no other reason than it makes me feel better.     I am sure ~1.5 l is sufficient but more is better in my book.

The listed oil capacity for the V7 111 is 2.0 liters versus 1.8 liters for previous models. A V7 sump extender from earlier models will not fit a V7 111. I'm not sure if anyone is making an extender for the V7 111 and I'm not sure one is needed anyway.

Whoever came up with that system must of had rocks in their head! The last thing you want to do is impede flow to the pump!

Pete, It's ingenious way to fit an oil cooler to a small block, but you're right; the risk to reducing the oil flow isn't worth it.  Esp. since the engine is already well cooled.  The Guzzi split cylinders, like the BMW boxers, is a good design for air cooled engines.  I've always wondered how side-by-side British twin cyl engines don't overheat.

To the original poster, Shai385, the only time I've had my V7 seem like it might overheat was when I was trapped in standstill traffic for a long time.  I'll shut off the engine, and push the bike a few feet as cars slowly move forward.  I think you're in Israel, which might have traffic congestion in the cities, so that might be an issue for you.

A sump extender should cool things in theory with the greater surface area for cooling and more oil, but I think people w dipstick thermometers have reported little change in temp.

It's a shitty way to mount an oil cooler to anything.

Apart from the fact that you are relying on crankcase pressure to force the oil to the pump and the more hindrance there is between pick up and pump the greater the chance of cavitation and lousy delivery you are also taking the oil, cooling it and then delivering it back to an environment where it will be heated again rather than going directly, or as directly as possible, to the bearings that need to be cooled.

The whole idea is a dreadful one probably dreamt up by some gurning half-wit who wanted a cooler on his 'Cafe Racer'. I scoff at them and break wind forcefully in their general direction!

Chuck will know more but I have his Aero front cover which has oil in and out fittings presumably for oil cooler. I would have thought air cooling was perfect in flight but guess it depends where in world, air pressure, etc etc, makes me wonder if it had thermostat , there was oil temp sensor on drain plug.
