The Tattley Rappet rally is in Motueka this year. Pre enrollments close 1st October. Don't miss it!

Unlikely to make it once again this year, tho' iI believe a couple or few of other from the western isle may. Toddle along. Trust you'll all have a good time in Mot this year. Do try the Kenepuru Rd north from Linkwater, and let me know how that road is doing (2,500 corners in 42km) - the Breva is likely to be more sprightly on that road than most. The scallops from Nelson are alone worth the trip - I've a good recipe.

I was born and bred in Golden Bay Mal, also known as Paradise. :thumb: Breva has done the Queen Charlotte Drive road a few times now. Yep, goes good. There is so much in the way of great rides up there it beggars belief. My front tire always wore with flat sides and jagged bits in the centre.
We still have a family holiday place up there in Golden Bay so after the rally will shoot back over the Hill (which has 365 corners) for a few days R&R and hopefully go fishing with my mate who lives about 500 metres away. Still have a fizz boat and a scallop dredge up there, but sadly scallop dredging has been banned for the last few years. I eat 'em all ways when we could get them. We do have cockle, pipi and mussels available straight off the beach where we are, which is a bonus.
You will have to make it to a rally some time in the future, hopefully before I fall off the perch. :thumb:

Sorry to have been caught preaching to the "converted at birth" mob. Some people really have it tough.

I'll see you there Rev. I am on the red 750 Breva. Probably be the only one there seeing my mate double booked Labour weekend.

Getting closer, you snooze, you lose!
Only 11 10 9 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 days to go. Some great riding up there. :bike-037: :bike-037: :bike-037:
About to hit the road now. About 450kms to Motueka.

Certainly do a report Dusty. Will take phone and camera and see if we can get some shots.
Our 'pooter is now back on line after it got electrical constipation after 10 years and wouldn't pass a current. I have been researching for ages on bits to assemble what I wanted and it seems to be going well. Hope my skills are up to the task.

Where do you hail from Cash?
I was born and bred in Golden Bay, just over the Hill (by about 52kms :thumb:). I will be on the red Breva 750 (hopefully) with the big fluffy sheepskin to give my semi detached tendon a bit of relief. Make yourself known. I am based in the Top 10 Holiday Park with at least two others.

All going well I will be there, coming over from the North Friday morning.
I am looking forward to meeting the W/Guzzi people in person.
V711, silver but plan B is my 1100 sport also silver.
Got to get a ride in on the Blenheim to Nelson road before they drop the speed limit.
Cheers, voncrump

I am assuming you mean the Queen Charlotte Drive. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Great road!
Please make yourself known voncrump. Red B750 with fluffy sheepskin. (if it makes it)

No, the main road between Nelson and Blenheim, they are proposing dropping the max speed to 80 for its entire length.
It wont happen though, the out cry has been staggering!
Voncrump, if you come on the Sport go the main road. If you come on the V7 check out Queen Charlotte. Lots of corners! But itll wear you out on a Sport!

I lived in Blenheim for 12 years and did the Queen Charlotte drive often.
It was an about 100km loop from Blenheim around to Havelock and back.
I used to hum my V50 around there in the 80s, a perfect bike for a winding road like that.
But now I’m told it’s not such a good ride with speed restrictions and camper vans.
Might still have a look depending on who I am traveling with.
Cheers, voncrump

I'll be there late Friday afternoon, on my V85TT. Leaving Auckland Wednesday to explore some roads on the way down to Wellington.
Looking forward to catching up with old acquaintances again.

Is that Greg's or Pete's? Had heard that Greg had changed the headlight to a round one (that actually works), but hadn't seen photos yet. My loss for not returning to the scene of the crime sooner.

I thought he was called Dave, theres always a Dave.

A few pics from today. Back roads, open roads, fast roads, slow roads, all Guzzi roads. And yes, the 1938 Pe250 did the lot! Just a bit slower than some of us :bike-037: :copcar:

Just got home this evening. had to connect up the 'pooter which had had a hissy fit. Will try to get some photos downloaded.
The rally was fantastic and the venue (The RSA) was within easy walking distance. Saturdays ride was up the Motueka valley, lunch at St Arnaud (the Nelson Lakes area) and then down to Dovedale via a road I had never been down (and fantastic riding it was). After gathering at the Brightwater Hotel it was back to Motueka via the inland Moutere Road. Weather fine and a famtastic day out. While watching one off the Blenheim riders going off-road to visit the memorial site of one of WG's former member (Roundbarrel) I happened to bump in to my former flatmate from my miss-spent youth who had joined the Blenheim contingent for the ride on his Triumph. Was good to catch up with him; still somewhat of a larrican
Sundays ride was through to my old stamping grounds of Golden Bay. We were supposed to meet at the salmon farm there for lunch, and then it was all for themselves and go and explore. Some of course sailed past the turnoff, some ending up at the base of Farewell Spit some 45kms beyond. The only off happened at the salmon farm, where a rider on a Cali had to dodge a car on a sharp RH bend on the narrow road, snagged his floorboards and ended up in the trees. Bike was ok but he damaged his ankle so back-up had to ride it home. For some, riding the 25km Takaka Hill was a first time experience. Many big block owners found that the smallblock owners found it a much easier ride simply because of their flickability. On the way in to the township of Takaka I happened to follow for a time the little 1938 PE250. The rally was it's first outing, and by the second day Fabi, the rider, was beginning to have a bit of confidence that it would hold up. I clocked him at 55mph into a strong head wind. The little beast was humming! :thumb:
A really great rally and I think that all would say a fantastic time had by all. Congratulations to the organisers. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I then ducked back over the golden Bay and spent three days doing a bit of cleaning up around our families 4th generation holiday home (called a bach). Lovely weather, followed by a great ride home today.

Good to meet ya Muzz!
"Saturdays ride was up the Motueka valley, lunch at St Arnaud (the Nelson Lakes area) and then down to Dovedale via a road I had never been down" You must have gotten lost! It was:
Westbank to Tapawera, St Arnaud via Kawatiri Junction, then onto Brightwater via 88 Valley (Unless you missed the turn off!) then the Moutere. Dovedale is down another road off the Mot valley ;)
Certainly the small blocks favour the Takaka hill, the Sport went ok over there but you need to be aware!
That little PE250 amazed me with its speed! Who would think a 1938 would comfortably sit at 80+ kmh all weekend!
Was an awesome weekend, can't wait until the next one!

So, is it only in Otago and Southland it is called a crib?

Correct Dave. When I flatted in Palmerston North for a year thw guys from auckland called the holiday home a whare, myself a bach and the guy from Mosgiel called it a crib.
Took a bit of discussion to work out they were all the same thing.

If I was lost then i wasn't the only one. How about Belgrove. :embarrassed: :embarrassed:  I had been down the road that went through Kikawar but not the 88 Valley (didn't know the name of it).
When I was Nelson College and later Palmy I did a lot of commuting on the old Moutere road on Oily Esmel, mu old 1948 G3L Matchy; the Coast road had yet to be built.

Good to see a greenie over there!
Cheers Guzzler
Ps It's a Bach, never heard them called anything else.
Then again, I've been away for 40+ years!

hi Guzzler. You probably originally hail from a generally central part of NZ, don't roll your "R's" and don't tack eh on the end of every sentence.
edit: missed the one up in Opononi this year. Busy recovering from a heart valve replacement. 2023 is in Alexandra this year. Accommodation all booked and ready to rumble!
