Title: '84 Cali II Cush drive access??
Post by: wguntz on June 18, 2016, 03:35:40 PM
Greetings!

I'm trying to get into the cush drive of my recently acquired '84 Cali II Auto (Alloy Wheels).  I took off the plate which covers everything, and a giant "fibre" washer under the plate.  I was expecting to find a giant spring clip holding the cush plate in place (like on my Convert) but there is no sign of such a clip (or a groove where one would go).  The plate is VERY firmly attached to the hub.  Before I start tapping and prying, I'm hoping someone can provide some advice on how to access the cush drive.  Do I need to take the whole hub apart from the other side?

Thanks!!

If it like my T4 and never been apart since new it is a right royal PITA.

You don't need to come in from the other side, I think i used tire levers to gently pry with all my might the cush drive plate from the wheel using lots to packing for a fulcrum and to protect the rim. Can't remember the details exactly but it is retained only by interference fit with the cush drive rubbers.

Take your time and make sure there are no people with sensitive hearing around.

THANKS for the responses!!!  Lots of penetrating oil, soft blow mallet, leverage, verbal encouragement :wink:and it is FREE!!!  Once I knew things were not attached, I felt free to pursue more aggressive methods!!

Thanks again.  Another lesson learned about my Cali II.

-Ride safe,
Wayne

I just take nuts off disc side and bash cush drive plate out using disc bolts with copper mallet, 5 mins tops
