Trip re-set shaft broke off in speedo housing...
« on: June 16, 2018, 07:36:32 AM »
I just discovered that the trip-reset shaft looks like it's broken off in the speedo housing of my LM IV, not merely just "missing". I was hoping a replacement shaft would restore it, but it looks like now I'd have to somehow remove the broken-off piece.

Did someone mention that it's a reverse-thread? That would be great to know before going in.

Thanks!

If it is on the left of speedo , it's left handed threads, if it's on the right its right handed.

Another easy way to think of it is this: Whichever direction you actually turn the reset knob normally, the threads are opposite that, ie: the way you reset tightens the threads. Counter clockwise to reset would be left hand threads.

I just replaced the reset knob on my '94 California 1100 . Right side , right hand thread .
It was hard to see the shaft that it threaded onto mostly because of the reflected light off the housing .
I put masking tape around the hole to see inside .
On mine , seems it would be difficult to break the shaft because the tube on the knob is so long with very little sticking out of the hole .
