I picked up this thing.. NGC

  97 Buell Cyclone 12,000 miles...It was sitting in a barn for several years and needed some small repairs. ..Past owner put on a after market muffler and a Penske rear shock. I had to clean out the carb idle jets and replace the intake manifold seals. Weld a broken exhaust bracket. Oils changed and it seems fit for the hiway...Nice not too loud exhaust sound...

I've always loved Buells. They're raw, visceral, and fun.

The one I sold last year was like that.... It just wasn't "me" but I totally get why someone would enjoy em.

I like the idea of the older ones, I suspect its mostly plug and play with HD?
Seems much more confidence inspiring for parts to keep her running then the last batches with the Rotax motor etc?

Buell prices are way depressed all over the US even more so than used Guzzi's and are equally outstanding machines.

Cyclones are great fun on a twisty road, at traffic lights with your eyes bouncing not so much. I would love to have one to go with my Uly. Good thing you got it and not someone who wants to make a mutant Buell chopper out of it.

Great  find, Rough Edge!  just today I was thinking what a barrel of fun  a Buell would be. After riding a Cyclone a while back I've been a fan ever since .Ride her hard and enjoy!

  I paid 2500 bucks...I was thinking a bit less but the owner held fast..According to paperwork the Penske shock was $950. The shock should serve breakfast for that price... The 97 Cyclone is just a 10-1 compression Sporty engine with a less restrictive intake and tuned exhaust rated at 83 HP. The listed weight is 425 pounds .. The vibration at low speed is similar to the shaking of Guzzi's, you just ignore it..

BTW: you would pay around $6500 over here for a reasonably nice Cyclone!

Sounds like a bargain for a modern monoshock.  I paid about $800 for the Penske on my Stelvio a couple years ago that replaced the original, but there were other, better shock options that were twice that and more .....

Ya know, that was true on solidmount Sportsters I've owned and ridden.

But I've not experienced it on any of my rubbermounted Harleys OR Buells (but the Buell I owned was a 2001 model, though still a tube frame bike, if that makes any difference).

I was a long-time Buell rider (should be obvious from my screen name); IMO they represent the essence of motorcycling: simple (like big tinker toys), not much more than a big motor hanging off of a frame with wheels, and FUN to ride.

The motor mounting systems, even in the old tubers, eliminate most vibes at speed. Parts do vibrate off and apart, however.

Like most Buell enthusiasts, I had a love/hate relationship with my bikes; lots of problems but even more great rides.

Nice purchase RE! Now go ride the hell out of it!

  I slapped a fictitious plate on the Buell and got out on the rural roads. Lots of vibration at lower speeds like the other newer Buell I rode.It's a "rubbery" vibe... It has no tach but once past about 3000 rpm it smooths out.. In fact the higher the revs the smoother it gets.. And the sucker gets up and goes when the throttle is twisted. And sounds great, not like a typical Harley..  Fantastic brakes...
 Steering felt very fast to me with the wide low bars..Swapped them to a higher bar with more pull back cut off to 28 inches wide. Much better thank you.
 Last week I rode a 2006 1050 Triumph Speed Triple. The Buell is a bit slower but handles better in my opinion.
