03 Rosso Corsa
« on: April 16, 2018, 12:46:29 PM »
I have a lead on a 03 Rosso Corsa with low mileage, a few extras, like mufflers and luggage. Anyone have a general idea on a fair price to pay? Any specific etchings to look out for, like bubbling paint, clutch issues etc?

I believe you mean Rosso (red) Rosa is pink. Corsa (Race) not corso (course).

bubbling engine paint was a 2002 exclusive.

with HB luggage I'd pay around $5500-6,000.

Rosso Corsa and Nero Corsa were the Ohlins equipped versions of the V11 LeMans in 2003 and 2004. In addition to the suspension, they have special paint.

The bikes command a premium over the standard versions of the V11 LeMans.

For 03 and 04, the only issues I recall are the failure of the ITI speedo's odometer,  and the shift return spring on some bikes.

Engine paint and clutch were not issues on these bikes.

:1: on all of the above. Additionally:

 - Pull the 30 amp fuse and see if it, or the fuse block, show signs of overheating/melting. These bike can overcharge.
 - The plastic quick-disconnects on the fuel lines can be fragile.
 - All the "normal" stuff, such as condition of rubber parts, that you would expect as bikes age.
 - If you can, lift the front wheel and check the steering head bearings. Many came with very little grease and the bearings wear prematurely.

I think the 2003/2004 were the best sorted of the V11s, which makes sense, because those were the last years.

If it's as good as it looks, I'd bump it up to $6500.
There is a fix for the pawl spring.. $10.

$6500. is the asking price.

Along with the MG bags, it has some upgraded mufflers. Can't tell from the picture what they are, but they have an engraved Guzzi eagle near the end cap. Tires are at least 4+ years old, but the machine looks very nice in cel phone pics....

Anyone interested in my Le Mans III?

See it here for comparison:

Mine had the clock problem at around 6500 miles. The return spring never broke, but I kept a spare just in case. When I sold the bike, the tank was showing some small bubbling and it had expanded. I don’t know if they are available from anyone, but those tanks have stickers and not paint for their design. I always kept the bike on a stand and never had a problem with the forks leaking, but I understand having them serviced by an Ohlins dealer is not cheap. Still worth having as it was a joy to ride.

If it’s clean, I’d definitely buy it for $6500 bucks.

^^^^ the Ohlins forks are dead simple to service. I did a tutorial on the V11 forum. Ohlins "fork oil" is *expensive,* though. It'll take about 60 bucks worth. Why not use somebody else's oil? Fork oil does not = fork oil. One maker's 5 wt. might be another's 15 wt. I wanted to stay with the excellent feel of the Ohlins.
Rosie was a sweetheart, but I already had the Mighty Scura.. so she had to move on. The Ohlins bikes have already bottomed out in price, and are slowly inching up. $6500 is about where a nice one should be.

Interesting observation:  Chuck..what do you a think a completely sorted Scura should go for now?   Having done all of the recommended Scura Chuck upgrades, Roper Plate, Single plate clutch...my Scura is in tip top shape...have no plans for selling, but curious what it would be valued at now...  :)

^^^^ My gut feeling is a *sorted* Scura wouldn't bring as much as a Rosso or Nero. But not by much.  There are more Scuras available.

The 2002-2003 V11's were nice.  When I moved to Germany in 2004, I sold my '02 Le Mans and my buddy Jim (pictured) now has it.  It was an excellent modern Guzzi...

I think I'd swap my Mk 2 Le Mans for one of those..

Yes, the V11S are quite a bit heavier than the early Lemans, but are considerably more capable. The suspension is head and shoulders better.. they are sophisticated without being bland.

I owned 2003 Rossa Corsa for a couple of years. Beautiful to look at and ride. A lot of problems. I had to replace the steering bearings because of no grease in the bearings from the factory. The clutch went bad st 5000 miles because rivets went bad. The mechanic told me some of the clutches were bad on some of the bikes and they went bad prematurely. Speedo cable broke. Oil leaks from the rear seal. Exhaust cross over seals went bad. Shift pawl spring broke. Tank went soft. Ethanol ?
Sold the bike. Just could not keep up with all the problems. Just a lemon I guess. Hey. what are ya gonna do ?
I was gonna look at another Guzzi nearby and thought of the Rossa and changed my mind. Also the closet shop is 2.5 hours away.
I still love Guzzis but I'm afraid of getting another one as I will worry about when the next problem will occur.
Thanks for letting me vent.
