The ones I have had total success with, are the green coloured ones.
Roughly like a watermelon of all things. I routinely take the covers off my Norge every 20,000 k to check the clearance and for the last 4 or 5 times I have just wiped the faces (faeces....?), and whacked them back on.
No dramas....

Good luck.  Don't be discouraged if the RTV leaks.  If it still leaks, it won't hurt anything, just keep her topped up.  Replace the gasket when you get a chance.  In the future carry spares when you travel.  :thumb:

I'm glad we got it worked out and know you didn't have to stay on the side of the road and could ride it.   :thumb:

Actually bluegrass people like Danny and I take it pretty serious. Most of the artists could be pretty be pretty hot jazz players if they lowered themselves to that level.  :boozing:  Making fun of the banjo picker is pretty typical  :thumb: all in fun!

A little banjo story.
When I first started learn to play this complicated beast I would go everywhere there was a picking going on where any one could sit in and take a turn when it came around to them.
So I was sitting beside an old guy playing a mandolin and doing it justice. So when it came around to me on the tune  “OLE JOE CLARK” I did my best to maintain those 8 note per measure rolls and stumbled right through the break.
When I was finished the old guy looks at me and says “you know young feller we like to see a good banjo picker come” my heart swelled with pride and as he got up and started to walk of I heard him mumble under his breath “and we LOVE to see a sorry banjo picker go”
So I packed up and snunk out to my truck and left.

Very cool.

With all the cliche banjo jokes, one would think that the obvious theme song for this whole situation would have been mentioned by now. I realize Danny's place is slightly east of the Smoky Mountains formal, but......

Stock gskts do that on their own. Not bad installation. Glue on one side breaks loose and it goes in or blown out. They dry & get brittle and change shape.
Only problem w/rtv is if the stuff peels on inside and goes in oil.

I forgot about how bad those stock gaskets were on those bikes. Changed the ones on my 07 Norge years ago and never had a problem.

Whether the RTV seals it or not, the bike should be rideable but messy. Make sure the oil is topped up.  The rider won't be on the side of the road.

Hopefully someone on his way can provide him with the right gasket.  I doubt that most Guzzi "dealers" keep this common part in stock.  I keep a spare with me when I ride on a trip.  Too many failures.

Update on our prodigal son😂

Jim and I had breakfast at a nice little mountain restaurants this morning around 8:00 AM. We came back to the river house snd as I promised wife snd I played him a couple tunes on the fiddle, banjo and guitar.
We returned to the motel and fired the Guzzi up and let he run while Jim was suiting up and no leaks. I accompanied Jim the the Blue Ridge Parkway and we stopped again before he went in his way to be sure all was ok with the bike.
Low and behold NO RUNS NO DRIPS AND NO ERRORS and no one left on the side of the road.
Jim and I left with the agreement that maybe EVERYTHING is not always by luck or chance and that’s all I’ll say about that🤔👍

Great work, everyone!

I can only add that the Valpolini (metal core) gaskets Huzo is rightly recommending are these, from MG Cycle, even though "Valpolini" is not in the description:

http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=170_174&products_id=4634

Make sure to install them. With the metal core they will not be displaced from the joint. Cheap insurance against a repeat.

(I had the same failure as you did with a paper gasket, leaving me with one nicely-oiled and waterproof riding boot. No problems with the Valpolinis.)

Good luck.
