Guzzidiag Reader: Initialization Failed!

<< < (3/3)

guzzisteve:
I used the reader/writer last week although not your ecu I noticed it took a minute or so before I saw any green in the slot that shows progress.
I also had a charger on the battery, that's in case it takes some time and have optimum batt voltage for entire time it takes.
Seems you have the correct writer or reader. you could try just overwriting the map in there and get one later if need, like you said.

In the end I borrowed an obscure netbook running Windows 10, and that read everything just fine! Go figure. The next issue was that the supplied map wouldn't upload... doh, here we go again I thought. However, Mark (Beetle) soon sorted it out; apparently my map pre-dates his earliest copy of a factory map (2013). He had to build a new definition file to build the new map; It must be the first generation of the single throttle body V7 maps apparently. So I'm working through a few options at the moment. Very impressed with the service from Mark at Griso.org to build a suitable map.

Glad to hear this , Mark was quick to respond to any problems I had with my 2018 Eldorado . I
must have reread everything 3 times before even trying and almost instantly had problems . I had to
add another port (#7 I think ) and it finally connected . The simplest things  . Peter

Just managed to upload the Beetle map on my Norge. The Lonelec device was shipped with a USB Type-C cable that gave me quite a few headaches on the Read part.
First of all, I managed to do this on a Windows 11 laptop, and I have some insights (take them with a bunch of salt):
-The drivers for the FTDI chip should be installed only after the COM port is created/visible in Control Panel, and even if COM 5 and COM 6 were available, only COM 4 worked for me.
-The USB cable did not work with USB Type-C, no matter what! I used one from my printer that had a USB Type A.
-The IAW 5X Read program did not work on its own, I did the read and write directly from GuzziDiag. The same for the IAW 5X Write program.
-GuzziDiag worked only after it was run with compatibility to Windows 8, from preferences. and after a serious restart and with everything closed, including internet/chrome/bluetooth.
-No access to a battery tender, so I just used the leads from my car. worked great.

That being said, the map works bloody great. I can't stop riding the thing, almost 0 stutter at low RPM, and no more pops and bangs on deceleration.
Engine braking is now not intrusive, quite a big change. I would say that it has been tamed to the point that it is almost unnoticeable at times.

Thanks to all involved for the good info and the ability to keep these glorious machines on the road and healthy.

I had no luck with the lonelec cables.  I used some generic ones off amazon where the driver came on a cd and it worked perfect.
