Title: ST2 Brake & Blinker cancel
Post by: drburt on May 21, 2022, 12:45:34 PM
Last weekend I completed adding ST2 (Brand) Smart Brake Module and Smart Turn System to my 2001 EV.
I really like the added safety features that they provide me.
The Smart Brake Module will either turn on a steady brake light or slowly flash the brake light when it detects deceleration.
The Smart Turn System cancels my turn signals!!!
I must not have the brain cell that reminds me to turn off my turn signal.
It is what it is.
I've had too many drivers pull out in front of me because of my TSCDD (Turn Signal Cancel Deficit Disorder).
Better safe than sorry!

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:  As another alternative to the standard brake light, I have used LED HYPERLITES on several of my motorcycles for years.  They work well... :thumb: :boozing:   :thumb: :thumb:

I purchased one of the smart signal modules but I didn't know how well it would work with the V7III blinkers, they have separate inputs and outputs from the dash No flasher relay.
I will probably try it on the Convert it has a conventional system like your EV.

I had a turn signal cancellation unit (can't remember the brand). The problem I had with it was that it would cancel the ts, but the switch would remain in the "on" position, so I ended up fumbling with it the next time I wanted to indicate a turn.

JJ - The Hyper-Lites look like they would make the ST2 brake module even better. I'm going to keep them in mind.
Kiwi-Roy - Yeah, that does sound like a challenge if not impossible. I bought one for my 2015 GRiSO. Haven't looked at a schematic. Might have the same issue. I think the manufacturer stated it would work. Don't remember. Bought it a couple of years ago.
Rich A - This unit has a tiny rubber puck that goes at each end of the switch internally. This is to supposedly make the switch momentary. I took it a step further and removed a tiny ball bearing and spring from the switch that holds it in the right or left position until manually cancelled. So far so good.
I really wish there was a replacement momentary switch so I didn't have to rely on the rubber pucks.
We'll see how long they last.

Anybody know of a pre-manufactured momentary turn signal switch that would drop into the housing of a 2001 EV left side switch assembly?

Thanks,
Brent

When I restored my old Eldorado, most of the electrical components were shot so I decided to build my own,
For the turn signal and H/L switch I used 2 Amp reed switches under the brass plate operated by tiny magnets in the levers, there is no mechanical connection between the lever and the switch. The brake light switches are also reed type.
Later on I decided to make the signals self canceling when I operate the clutch lever.

It looks pretty crude but works surprisingly well and create a lot of interest.
Sorry it's a bit off topic.

Kiwi_Roy - That is beautiful and brilliant!
Thanks for showing that.
