Customizing my v7 stone...seems like it never ends!
« on: May 30, 2014, 09:59:59 PM »
Hey everyone,
I hope you are enjoying some good weather and rides wherever you may be!
Over the last year, I have slowly started to customize my baby (v7 stone) and it's a good thing! Yes it may get expensive (I am doing it slowly), but I have to say it is a thrill to see how the bike it turning out!

So far, this is what I have done:

Lafranconi Competazione exhaust,
V7 Racer rear sets,
CRG arrow lane splitter mirrors,
Rizoma black handlebar,
Front and rear clear turn signal lenses with amber bulbs,
Moto Guzzi rubber tank pads,
Stucchi rear rack (black),
"Breva Model" windscreen,
Removed the amber reflectors on the front forks,
Left side original mirror thread was left in upright position so I can thread a RAM MOUNT ball adaptor for GPS,
Chrome generator cover,
"Adaptor" line for my battery tender and USB to charge small electronics (mainly my iphone)

I plan on doing a couple of more small mods...just need to save up for them!

Here's my attempt to post a link to some pics on photo bucket...if the link doesn't work, I apologize in advance...I'll try to sort that out!

Hope you like it and please post some pics of your mods!

Cheers and safe riding,

Chris

How good is that windshield? Do you get turbulence up around your helmet?

My how things change. I like my V7 the way it is. If I did a mod it would be to get twenty five more horse power out of it.

Hemi conversion? Up the compression? Cam? Carbs? More chrome?

Thanks for the compliments Rich A, Kev m, Penderic (love the pic of that modded bike...too funny), and Kevdog 3019! Much appreciated!

Joe G...I too love the v7 stone as is and stock...there is a simplicity to it that drew me right in when I bought the bike...having said that, I bought the bike knowing I could make it my own with a bit of a blank canvass. I really do think we all have  our own "style" and thus is why we may or may not make changes to our bikes.  Kinda like buying a suit and then accessorizing with that special shirt or tie! All good though!

How good is that windshield? Do you get turbulence up around your helmet?

Sonicboom...I love the windshield...I am about 5'8 and shrinking (it's a gravity thing...lol) and feel that it is not too bad with the turbulence on the helmet...it's manageable as the windscreen diflects some of it...any taller, and I think you may have to get a taller windscreen or maybe try the lower gel seat (might be an inch or so lower from what I am hearing). For me, I really loved the look and flow of the windshield on this bike and had to get it! Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Ambogal,

The cover is from:

I thought it was a nice touch to break up all of the black in the lower centre of the bike.

Looks great! I might have to buy a Breva 750 windshield for my MZ. Should provide more coverage than the Dart flyscreen I was considering and is cheaper by $30. It just attaches at the headlight bolts doesn't it?

Hey Charlie,
As far as I know there was a slight bolt adjustment...the dealer installed it for me when I bought the bike. He told me that it was a breeze to install. The v7 stone has the same headlight as the Breva...I am not sure about the mz. I hope that helps!

I've put that windshield on my dream list here. Sure Like that alternator cover, may consider that. Heck I like it all.

Is this bike for sale?

Do they make that wind screen in smoke?  That would really look good on the black Stone.

If they don't you can always black it out with paint on the back.

I've seen this and it's amazing how good the finish looks, almost perfect factory like, slight runs don't even show up on the outside.

Plus you could use any color you want.

Thanks sonicboom!
I love this bike too much to even consider selling...plan is to teach my son to ride responsible (still 5 years away) and buy another bike so I can go riding with him! If I do change my mind (not), you'll be the first I PM. Thanks for all the compliments!

As for the screen coming in smoke...I haven't seen that but it would definitely be cool (a light smoke)! Good idea Kev of having it painted!

Hey Moto Fugazzi,
Really cool mods...bike is looking sharp! I particularly like the shocks, wheels, and solo seat!  At some point I would like to get a solo seat (85% of my riding is on my own and it would be kinda cool to have the option of seats...I need to start saving). I like all the little convenience mods you have done as well. I was going to change the shocks when I first bought the bike, however I felt that it would be a good idea to really feel out the bike for a season or two and then make that decision to change them out or not (from what I am reading and hearing, upgrading the shocks makes a difference to most).

Cal3me,
Good idea to have a tint place put a film on it...if one gets tired of it, they can just remove film and go back to stock!

Penderic,
I like the old school look of your bike...especially with your windscreen. Because you have a white bike, it seems like it made a lot of spence to paint the alternator cover black...looks cool!

So, I've been thinking...with all of these mods being done to bikes, what do you do with your original stock parts? TO KEEP OR NOT TO KEEP?  Personally, my dealer recommends that I keep ALL my original parts in the event that I need to replace an aftermarket part back to original for any unforeseen incident or even if one day if want to sell, I have all the original parts.  On the other hand, all these aftermarket parts COST A LOT and having some extra money from the original parts would help...I bit the bullet and kept all of my parts...

ANY THOUGHTS ON KEEP OR SELLING ORIGINAL PARTS?

Cheers,

Chris

Over the years, I've accumulated boxes and boxes of OEM parts taken off and replaced with after-market stuff. Never, not once, have I put one of those parts back on. Periodically, I give stuff away. Or I try to toss it in if/when I sell a bike. I always hope the new buyer will think he absolutely has to have all the original stuff  ;D

I save all of my take off parts just in case the next owner wants to revert it back to stock. Plus it's good to have spare parts…

Mans shaving kit is the man version of a womans overnight case/bag. It has everything a feller might need including razors, condoms, combs brush deodorant mustache wax, scissors. Whatever's required. In my case I carry an extra tooth.

So, my answer would have to be..............eas ier than shaving with a condom............. ..  ;D
