Those of you with custom seats-if you need protection for them from rain or sheepskin protection-that's what I do.

I ride a new 2014 left-over GT8V Norge. So far I have added The larger factory windshield & the factory top box. Right now I am waiting For MCCruise of Australia to ship me the 2nd kit they have built for the GT8V. The 2V kit does not fit. In Preparation, I have removed the charcoal canister from the tail section. This will be the location for the electric servo. I installed the MCCruise kit on my 2012 650 Vstrom. It works perfectly. When my new kit is installed , I will post a few photos of my project. The most difficult part of this job is R&R of the airbox. Contact me for any no-cost advice on the canister or cruise control project.

The GoCruise Throttle lock comes in two sizes, 7/8" bars and 1" bars, what does the Norge use?

I have the black version.

Yeah, some of the work I've done on my Norge was "just for fun" like wire wheels, but if you check out huzo' mods or where wheel Norge , you might see something you think's worthy of your lovely bike, it looks great.

2008 Norge - things that may be less relevant to later design are marked with a *

- Helibar risers *
- Hyperpro spring and shock (rear) and Hyperpro fork springs
- CalSci windshield and Laminar Lip for stock windshield *
- Stelvio handguards
- Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control
- Throttlemeister (heavy) throttle lock / end weights
- Russell Day-Long saddle (with heat)
- MG trunk (2nd gen design)
- Additional LED lighting: 12" strips for running/signal/brake (red/amber/red) on back of each pannier, 12" amber for signal on each handguard
- Fender extensions on both front and rear
- Various engine mods help touring ( * may not be as valuable on later engine design)
- Sena SMH10 in all helmets
- Eastern Beaver circuit block with 6 switched circuits and 2 always hot circuits; all added electrical needs are fed from this block, and controlled by relays as required
- 12v accessory outlets on left dash (1) and in trunk (3 outlets) including USB converters and self-retracting cords
- RAM mounts on clutch reservoir (GPS) and brake reservoir (SPOT satellite tracker)
- IBA Premier plate frame

I've probably forgotten a few things, and I didn't include stuff that didn't have any effect on touring use but that are a good idea (i.e. starter fix).

Thats an impressive list right there!

2012 Roller version!!!

MG cycle windscreen - re-curved like original but a little larger, can cruise at 80 with visor flipped up

Did Norge Pilot's "riser" modification to the handle bars, raised 3/4 inch

Goldwing GL1800 pegs - wider and lower than stock

J& M CB Radio with hidden antenna....cuts the range but looks so much better

 Sargent seat with Italian flag

Heated  outlet "BMW style on left side plastic fairing cover.

 Givi topbox.

 Air horn with relay

I know there's something I'm forgetting..... :violent1:

Tim

I was doing a search on seat upgrades and ran across this post.  I'm wondering how you like that Sargent seat?  Is it working out for you?

I had my original seat raised (if I remember ) 1-3/8" at Sargeant.  This makes my knee bend much more comfortable.  I also had them move the passenger rise section back about 2".  If I was doing it over I'd go for a 2" rise.  I did the red stitching, and got a grey color for the seat, with the original color at the perimeter.  The new seat is a bit firmer than necessary, but all told it has been a very worthwhile upgrade, and (like most) I wish I'd done it several years earlier.  You will like this bike much more.  I would prefer an 8 valve, but my goal is 100,000 miles on this one, and I've got 60K to go.

Hmmm.
I always thought my standard '07 Norge seat was damn good... (Still do).
But sat on Bat 11's seat on his Norge and might have seen where mine is just a tiny bit inferior.
I can't recall what it is, but jeez it's not bloody bad !
BTW.
The handlebar mod is the biggest single one for me.

I'm on my second Norge; had an '09, recently bought an '07 with virtually no miles on it. Could be a function of body size (I'm 5"7"" and 150 lbs.), but whatever the reason, I find the stock Norge extremely comfortable: great wind protection, near perfect riding position, comfortable seat. I do have a low gel seat that I use for local riding; for long distance rides I prefer the stock seat; sit higher with less knee-bend. Though I might eventually make some changes, for now all I've added to the bike:

ram mount on brake reservoir with Zumo 395, startus interruptus, Koako throttle lock, bike came with a MG tank protector and MG trunk.

I haven't gone overboard (yet) on mods but here are some that helped

Stebel horn- added a fused wire from the battery and triggered relay with the stock horn wires.
Helibars - I'm 6'3" early in the day.
Day Long Saddle 1 1/2" taller than stock.
Ram mount for Garmin mounted to top tree like the factory Tom Tom would be and wired to the factory connector so that it goes off with the ignition.
Additional tail lights - strip LEDs along edge of tail trunk rack.
Fuel map corrected and Lamba turned off.
Silicon rubber O-Ring for throttle lock.
Fused wire direct from battery to starter relay to avoid no start condition.

I think that's about all. If there were a better sounding exhaust that included the cat I would probably do that but I prefer to not smell like a refinery fire after a ride!

Jerry,

If I hadn't recently bought a used Norge, I would have been interested; given the extras, seems like a fair deal to me.

Huzo - My Stelvio was the same way but I am waiting now on the V85 as a platform.  If it isn't "perfect" from the factory I have no problem making the necessary modifications.  I have my Norge and KTM 990 to ride until then.

The Sargent seat is hands down better than stock. I had them widen it a couple of inches and take some of the slope out too.

Thanks Tim,

I keep going back to the photos you posted.  I'm really liking the look of that seat  (not weird about it or anything, but ...)  It really is well done.  Now if it's substantially more comfortable, even better.

I agree  the stock seat is pretty good.  But if you plan to ride the bike for a long, long time as I do, why wouldn't you upgrade the seat?

Just keep riding it and fix the bits that are uncomfortable.
Just like Michelangelo’s sculpture, when asked how he achieved such perfection…?
He just replied…
“I started with a piece of stone and took away the bits that didn’t look like David…”
