Somebody tell BMW that their ugly concept belongs in a Bond movie, which is not reality.

I think I like the look of this machine. It looks better than the concept bike they first showed about a year ago -- they've adjusted the lines and cleaned up some questionable materials (wood!).

Twenty years ago a friend and I laughed about the R1100C - the cruiser model. It was ugly and we couldn't figure out why they didn't make a nice retro model, instead of that cruiser junk. We knew it was a horrible flop and they'd be sorry. But oddly enough, it was a best selling item for a while. Perhaps BMW knows what they're doing - I'm not a good gauge of motorcycle fashion - I'm not into fenderless cafe bikes, fat tires, and all that nonsense. So perhaps this is what the purchasing public is looking for. For that matter, most of the BMWs have looked ugly to me in the beginning, but gradually moved to the pretty side when I wasn't looking.

That will be as successful as the R1200C was, a flop!  I would have hoped BMW would have learned to leave the cruiser market alone after that bad chapter.

Seems 40,000 units does not qualify as a sales flop .

I can recall a time when one could propel a whole mass production car with a 1600cc air cooled engine. Now it takes that to just lug the luggage.

Sigh.

Seems 40,000 units does not qualify as a sales flop .

 Dusty
I took one out for a test ride the first year it was introduced.  White,  like the one in the J Bond movie.

I think BMW had a couple of issues with the R1200C series being a hit.
- it did little to inspire current BMW riders to trade for one, or to add one to the stable.  Cruisers aren't BMW.
- HD riders weren't impressed.  What self-respecting HOG owner was going to abandon the "Motor Company" for one of these?

For some reason, BMW opted to hit the market with horsepower and torque in the range of current cruisers ... say, 60 hp, more or less.  The R1200C was a stump puller, for sure.  Again, little appeal to BMW riders, and cross over buyers were few.

The bikes seemed solid and simple ....... no Paralever, and what might have been a first for BMW, a single throttle body vs individual units.

And though BMW at the time talked about how the larger than life Telelever showed off their advanced technology, to my way of thinking, it was unattractive on a cruiser.  The bike would have looked much better with conventional telescopic forks.

I've heard that the R1200C makes a respectable sidehack tug ..... and that the robust Telelever makes a fair sidecar front end.  No experience with this.

Dusty, you make a good point.  If BMW sold 40,000 C Series bikes over, what, 5-7 years, that's a pretty good number.  But probably far below initial forecasts.
Main ride:  2008 Guzzi 1200 Sport (sold July 2020)
2012 Griso 8v SE (sold Sept '15)
Reliable standby: 1991 BMW R100GS
2014 Honda CB1100 (Traded Nov 2019)
New:  2016 Triumph T120 (Traded Dec 2021)
New:  2021 Kawasaki W800

Nobody remember?

The real Tony Stark: How French electrician stranded in Moroccan desert rebuilt his wrecked car as a motorbike and drove back to civilisation

Emile Leray broke Citroen in Moroccan desert 20 miles from nearest village
He engineered own rescue by rebuilding the damaged car into a motorbike
His hastily-made vehicle included the car's bumper as a seat
He put car's engine and gearbox in middle of vehicle and shortened chassis in rebuilding job which took 12 days

Maybe they should call it the "Bizmark"😁

This. Especially as its nose is pointing down.  Irrespective of it's undoubted qualities I don't like the styling.  Looks pretty heavy too.

Now there are a couple of "chrome bores"

One thing about the beemer , while it might be , er , well , odd looking , I can guarantee that with 160 or so HP and 129 LBS FT of torque , and weighing less than the GT or GTL , twisting the go fast handle will result in some serious fun  :copcar:
