Some dealer praise...(California)
« on: September 18, 2019, 12:49:38 PM »
I brought home my first Moto Guzzi yesterday (new 2018 V7 III Rough).  Although there are other dealers for Moto Guzzi closer to me, they didn't have the model or the price I wanted.  Since it was just me I had to trailer it, (though they would have arranged for a delivery if I had wanted it). About two hours to get there, about three back.

My first time with this dealer: GP Motorcycles in San Diego.  This was my favorite motorcycle buying experience ever.  They had a wide variety of V7s to choose from. Their advertised prices were great.  I started with email inquiry and they were always responsive.

There was ZERO sales pressure.  Take all the time you want to check out the bikes and ask questions. A small deposit held it until I could get there a few days later to pick it up. I was dealing with Paul Lima, the owner, (he was the guy who answered my emails).  I will tell you I've been to several dealerships (including one where I've bought three bikes) where I've never even met the owner.  The negotiation was gentle; I probably could have even ground out a couple hundred bucks more off but it just didn't seem that important, (besides, we want these kind of dealers around).  Things like an extended warranty were offered but not pressed at all. They helped me load it up.

The distance is a bit tough but I'd love to do business with them again.  They carry Ducati, Aprilia, KTM, Husqvarna, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, SWM, Ural.

I only got to ride it briefly after I got it home.  But I did get the idiot stickers off the tank and the steering head.  First things first, ya know?

PS: And yes, even on the trailer, the left mirror came loose as I was bringing it home.

In 1999 I bought my 1999 black Bassa from GP as I lived up in Orange County CA at the time. Everyone at GP was excellent to deal with back then as well. Some dealers get it and many don’t seem to have a clue. I’m thrilled the team at GP is still so good.

I stopped at Sloan’s in Murfreesboro, TN yesterday as they’re my closest dealer. They had a bunch of V7 models and 4 V85TT’s. When I asked a sales team member if Moto Guzzi stopped making the 1400 since they rarely have one on the floor, the reply was simply “no idea”. They were eager to talk about the BFC t-shirt I was wearing so that was great.

To the OP: congratulations to you on your V7 purchase. Enjoy your new Moto Guzzi in health and longevity.

I agree about GP.  I was just there today and bought a 2017 Griso after selling my California 1400 two days ago. Paul is a really nice guy and their staff is knowledgeable and helpful.

Also worth noting that San Diego Triumph is owned by GP.  They also sell Enfield so with the exception of BMW, Paul L has all the Euro brands in hand.  Isaac manages the place and has very long history and great knowledge of British and Italian bikes and parts.  Tim runs the service department and is also a very good mechanic who uses his head.

That’s nice to hear. I stopped in four years ago.  Two days in a row, as I was on vacation.  They made me feel like they could care less if I was there.   Maybe I just caught them in a slump.

It might have been simply that you encountered California's patented "laid back" attitude!

We bought Louisa's V7 III there, and it was a pleasant and well-handled experience. I wasn't as impressed with our requests for accessory information which they never followed up on till prompted twice.
