Title: Identifying electronic ignition
Post by: Skiwi39 on October 24, 2021, 11:45:41 AM
Hi -

I recently got a V65SP and am not sure whether or not it has the dreaded Motoplat Ignition system? The bike shows less than 11k miles on it, and I haven't had any ignition issues since I got it.

Any feedback on the posted pic would be appreciated, and any input on what those blue marks represent would be apreciated.

Thanks,

What he said. ^^ The blue marks are likely there so that when the unit is removed (so that the centrifugal advance can be cleaned and greased) the plate will be reinstalled in same location as before.

Yes, what they said, Dyna S .  It came with dual points, you can see condensers still mounted.

Yep, you're in luck. The Dyna S is the hot ticket for the old small block. And.. as Charlie says.. the advance mechanism needs to be cleaned and lubed religiously. If you don't, you'll wonder why it quit revving so freely.

Thanks to you all for the responses! Good to know what it is and that it needs to be cleaned and greased...I'll have to dig into that now!

Cheers!
